I can maintain back floating for days, it takes little to no energy. It's the first thing you should learn in the pool as it is the only thing that can save you for a long period of time when out in the deep.

I finally learned how to float on my back today. Unfortunately I have no friends and pool toys such as flotation devices are not allowed at my pool. It took a whole lot of getting water up my nose so I want to share my experience for those who might be in a similar situation. Stand in the water (I learned this in the middle of the pool with the water up to my shoulders but go where you feel comfortable) Bend down and put your chin in the water with your mouth and nose above the surface. Most important thing is to submerge both ears and look up at the sky, for me it helps to tilt my chin backwards as well. I have better buoyancy with my head at that angle than if my face was parallel with the sky. Take a deep breath Now lean back still while looking up and keeping both ears submerged lift up your legs and make yourself as pointy as possible. With your arms either put them at your sides or you can do a starfish thing but keep your palms facing up. Push your chest up, arch your back and lift your hips this will help to keep your body as close to the surface as possible. If your like me and your legs sink just kick them lightly you dont even have to do this continuously at least I dont but light kicking will keep your legs close to the surface You should be floating hopefully just relax and take controlled breathes like Chris said. Pretty much my entire head and face is underwater but my mouth, nose and eyes are above the surface which is what matters most. I know this was long but if you read the whole thing I hope I helped in some way :)

Your teaching technic conformed with my technic in learning my skill 54 years ago the only thing is that I do my practice on the river, I am from Philippines, am not a swimmer but I can do floating on water without stress, I can stay afloat on my back comfortable for a long time without movement, I can ride on big waves floating like a log. I have learned the skill of floating on water when I was 9 years old, and now I am 63 years old still doing it to show to my grand children. Larry Braganza (Rodriguez, Rizal, Philippines)
@MuraliKrishnaDevarakonda3 жыл бұрын
Man, you fixed it for me with your first instruction: "The first thing you need to think about is that you have air in your lungs, and it is this air that helps you to float in the water. If you breathe out all the air in your lungs, you won't be able to float. So when you breathe, you need to only breathe out a little bit of the air you have in your lungs. So you use short breaths. Do not empty your lungs - then you will sink like this." This is the most profound - maybe basic, but still, a profoundly fundamental - concept that I haven't seen in any other swimming/floating instruction, and certainly not from anyone who ever tried to teach me or correct my floating, in the 44 years I have been struggling with it! And I can relate to this because I have done a little bit of Scuba diving and one of the first things you learn there is that you go up by breathing in, and go down by breathing out - breathing is how you move up and down! So, I could immediately relate to this, and I tried it in the pool today after watching this video this morning. And it worked! I was able to float for an extended period of time - I actually ended up "floating" to the other end of the pool, because of how I was kicking my legs! Yes, now I have a new problem to solve - how to stay in the same place while floating!

Its gettn over fear. I'm blk. And from the ghetto. I was swimmin since I was in elementary. Get someone to put their hand under your chest, stomach lightly holding u up while u lay straight. Kick ur feet close together and try to only slightly kick only feet like ur feet is a motor. Do the swim motion with ur arms and you'll move forward. Go across and back once with someone holding u up using only their hand on ur chest or stomach. Do it again with them , letting go and holding again every 3 seconds let go for 1 second the hold u again. By the time u go back nd forth 4 times do it again without the person holding u at all. Only keepin their hand underwater near ur chest or stomach but never touching u. Then go yourself. You are welcome. I taught 11 ppl how to swim in less then 5 minutes. Ppl who were scared of water. Ppl who had swim classes. Learned from me in 5 min. After u learn how to freestyle swim. Which this is. U can do anything else and wont be scared

I skipped the putting my legs on the side of the pool (I couldn’t find my balance) and the having someone support my back since I was practicing alone. This is how I flote in water while my body remains motionless. here we go.. I take a deep breath with 3 point of control, feet, head and palm. Try and keep your head pointing toward back while lifting your feet as much as possible then bring your hands slowly right above your head strightly at this point your body is balanced from head to toe with the help of the air in your lungs so you should be comfortably on flote.

However, can I request that you demo the arm/leg movements for a longer period? Say a few seconds longer? Floating on the back is the most advanced technique in swimming, and most people can't do it. You cant teach yourself how to float on the back as there is fear/lack of experience involved. When i was 10 years old i got my C certification in swimming which meant i could do every technique, at 14 years old it was the last time i could do floating on the back technique. And at age 24 i remembered it/remastered it, just shows that this technique is easily forgotten and basically one of the hardest techniques to do. It's also one of the most important techniques as it will allow you to rest in open water/river swimming etc in dangerous situations.
@mistervova116 жыл бұрын
There is no such thing as real floating, people with male physique/low bodyfat have to use leg kicks to stay floating on the back. It all has to do with body mass/fat etc.
