I am a worship singer. I was able to play by ear at a young age. However, I convinced my mom to let me out of piano lessons when I was 9. I have always regretted not continuing to play. I thought all was lost because I could never play a melody and a chord at the same time. I had given up. I don't have a pianist right now and I can only use accompaniment tracks to sing. While I love them, there is no room to sing prophetically or go where the Holy Ghost wants to go. I am 52 now, and after just 1 hour with this video, I was able to play a melody and chords at the same time! It wasn't fast or perfect, but I was able to FEEL it! I have so much joy, and whether I am able to play in public or just deepen my home worship, I want to thank God for you. I have not allowed myself to even dream that I could worship the Lord on the piano until He led me to your anointed videos. I pray God's richest blessings and increased anointing upon your ministry! Thank you again.

The theory behind is borrow chords and the use of different scales. You borrow chords from different key that have some of the same note as the original key in this case the key of C Major which is also A minor.

I have been playing piano by ear for about four years now. this is the way my grandfather taught me to play by ear. It has been a tough journey because no one else who plays keyboard or piano understands the way that I am playing, and I have been told that it is very different and because they also play piano, I was told that I was playing incorrect. This is the only way I know how to play. I have tried to change it to just a basic pulse, melody, and flow, but it always comes right back to me. I think it sounds beautiful and no one else has ever complained except for the pianist who have played before and now play other instruments. This really helped me to know that it is a way to play and it’s not just me making up my own music . Thank you for sharing. I am going to share this with others, this will really help me to explain the way I have learned to play piano.

What a wonderful worship tutorial I've stumbled upon. The chords and styles on your channel are so beautiful. I was a guitar player and wrote Christian songs for many years, but arthritis took away my ability to play in 2018. It was heartbreaking, but I found that semi-weighted keys don't hurt my hands as much, so I'm back at the beginning of my musical journey (at my age) and trying to re-learn the songs on keyboard that I wrote for guitar. I really love how you break things down for beginners and especially that such a beginning includes DELICIOUS chords that allow one to immediately play creative and expressive music. This will be my go-to for learning music in the style I love. Thank you so much for sharing the gift God gave you. I was asking the Lord for help. I play by ear, of course, but that is so limiting. Thank you SO VERY MUCH! I have played for decades, but NEVER has anyone ever explained how to “flow” before to me. I felt as if you were speaking only to me, because everyone else already knows these “secrets”. Thank you for being transparent. Sometimes you just have to explain to a hardheaded student WHY certain things should be played, as opposed to the myriad of other things that should be avoided to get a correct musical response. Now, at least a have a small tidbit of a worship musical precept that is correct, so I can stop doing so very many bad musical worship practices in stark ignorance.

Great video KC. One of the challenges I would face with doing this is technical rather than musical. The Casio WK-200 keyboard arranger that I currently own has a poor decay rate - that's even with the use of a sustain pedal. So I might need to consider a digital piano. But other than that, this is wonderfully simple. And btw I'm making some progress with last week's video ( funky chords ). Thank God for His Grace working in you and through you

The only reason I can't right now is because I'm running Linux ( which I've been very happy with ) on this laptop. But I appreciate you dropping your link. In fact, I had not yet actually tried this exercise. There was something else that I'd been working on when I mentioned my concern. In any event, a peculiar occurrence transpired on the way to doing another exercise. I don't know if it was because I switched a tone or preset on the board or the way I was pedaling. But the problem seems to have abated. So now, I'm ready to do this exercise. But now since you brought up the possibility of software, I need to ask you about hardware. Would I be correct in assuming that you are connected through an audio interface 100% of the time? Again thanks be to the LORD and you for all that you do ☺️
