How to fly 3D like a pro: The Hover (stick camera)

You've probably marveled at those impressive moments when RC airplanes appear to defy gravity, hanging in the air with finesse akin to a helicopter. That's a hover. It's a maneuver that adds an exciting dimension to your flying skills.
In this tutorial I'll show you how to master the hover, one of the most unique 3D maneuvers and a stepping stone towards learning the torqueroll.

Awesome. I had a mid wing CAP21 plane in the late 80s with an OS Max 4 stroke engine and the picture on the box was this maneuver. I bought the plane because of it and could never come close to figuring out how to do this. Back then sharing information like this was not readily available. You would have to be lucky to know a local pilot that knew how to do this.... Dont get me wrong I still prefer how things generally speaking in the world were back then. In any case this is really cool to see how this is finally done.

I have Eflite Extra 300. I tried hovering with it. But they were all too high. And I always failed. In fact, I can even make torque rolls in Realflight 7 :). I thought CoG was to blame for this. Maybe I should try lower down... I recently took a flight on a very windy day. And I can hover with the bottom of the plane facing the wind. It felt very nice, but actually it wasn't a hover, it was like a harrier that didn't move :D I subscribed. I fly IMAC. But I'm also a 3D addict

I have my 3D plane set with Max travel on rudder and elevator but I heard you needed 35° up and down on elevator for 3D and not max.

When I hover it is much easier for me to do it downwind. Against the wind it is very difficult for me!! The wind has to push against the top of the wing. If the wind pushes on the lower part of the wing, the plane becomes very unstable. What may be happening. Extra NG90 pilot

do you have any video of yourself showing hover against the wind vs downwind? I never do hovers downwind because the airplane would fly away pretty quickly, but I can imagine that when doing it downwind you remove any remaining airflow over the wings. When upwing (against the wind), your wings are picking up some of that wind and might be generating a bit of lift/turbulence?

@@skyboundrc Ok. I'll put a video of what happens. Upwind, as soon as I try to put the plane vertical, it becomes unstable and tends to fall to the sides. On the contrary, with a tailwind the plane is very manageable.
