The advice on trim is absolutely spot on. Learned this on my 2 hours in Crazy Horse. But imagining being the pilot in the cockpit of the P-51 during WWII, it is hard to comprehend how a 22-YO pilot could manage the stick, all of the trim, the throttle and the prop while others are shooting at you, or you shooting at them, could juggle it all and live to tell the tale.

My dad flew P51D Mustangs against the Japanese in WW2. He would have known all these manoeuvres when he was 21 years old. I remember doing aerobatics in a cessnas in the 70s and 80s with him and he looked like he had done this many times before !

This aircraft (as seen in the video) appears as adept in the air as a dolphin in the sea. It literally looks like it was born to ride the skies and play around clouds. What a beautiful air machine! Thank you for the taking the time to make and upload the video!

I am currently saving money for a trip to Florida and Stallion 51! I will be contacting them within the next few months! I'm interested in a full checkout to solo standards. I'm a commercially certificated, instrument rated pilot with tailwheel time in a Citabria and C-152 & 172 taildragger. What an awesome video! Makes me cry! P-51 is my favorite plane & my dream is to fly one. That dream will be fulfilled later this year or early 2024.

Could you imagine going directly into a single seat P-51 mustang without any duel instruction in it that's what they did in WW2. Even single seat fighters today have a trainer version. Those guys back then were amazon pilots to navigate though all weather over to Germany and back.

Use both feet for the breaks same time dont over throttle untill air speed is reached or you will be arm resseling the stick or set trim. Dont need to use tail rutter if you dont go to crazy! Remember full throttle could flip her over!

How to fly the P-51 Mustang. Step 1: Write check for $2,000,000! Step 2: Write another check for $1,000,000 to cover full reconditioning of Merlin engine, reduction gear, propeller, hydraulics, and airframe. Step 3: Fly for 200 hours. Step 4: Repeat Step 2! No, it's not quite THAT bad, but if can't cover Steps 1 and 2, well, Forgeh 'bout it!

My 1st flight in a propeller aircraft was a P51 Mustang called "Glamorous Jen" (named after his daughter Jennifer) we did EVERYTHING you can do in a P51, pulling 5 G's positive and around 3 G's negative....loops ,rolls,cuban 8's etc...gave the guy only 300 bucks for gas! at the end of the flight we came out of dive over his grass airfield at 400 m.p.h. about 30 ft. agl...I'll never forget THAT flight...needless to say, every thing I flew in afterwards was "downhill" from that experience...now this same aircraft is called "Glamorous Gal" and lives at the American Airpower Museum up in Long Island N.Y. cheers. Mustangmike.

I understand I am no Pilot. I am so frustrated as a Fan of the P-51 My Frustration is with being totally ignorant in aviation and having the ability to fly a P-51 in a Simulator known as DCS World. This is where I will apologize to you for even being here and asking the question I have. 1st. I fly it in a dog fight and in a climb or in a turn If I bleed off my speed and hit 200mph the left wing drops and it wingover and I loose all control. Is this a real Life condition in a P-51 it's like you can not pull more the a 2g turn or climb. When in between 2 and 4g's your going to wingover and I find this to be so frustrating. I feel bad about asking this question here for a game problem but this is as close to flying as I will ever get in a P-51 and in VR I am so in love with it. If you find a reason to answer this Thank You so much. Please Forgive me for asking.
@peteruppert

ours has been in our family since 1947 my dad bought it off the docks in oakland calif in several crates. was not assembled till 1970is not hard to fly. people over explain that plane. yes heavy on the controls but no flight suit needed.i learned over the years to have spare parts. like canopys and engines and various styles of props keep it hidden do not go to airshows too many experts there, lol i wear shorts and tank tops when flying it. very hot in the summer to fly. you over explain it. if ihad someone talk as much as you do? lol id flip herupside down open the canopy hit the seatbelt release and out ya go.people overthink that plane. it was designed for 18 yr old pilots to fly. im 70 now have over 4500 hrs in that plane. i never think about it when i fly it stop overthinking that plane. why i never hangout with the experts. but i also fly off my own private strip. private hanger here in washington state.

@aflyertwo 5 жыл бұрын
Most GA flyers can do without the rudder trim until you get into a twin or very heavy single. The aileron trim has about the same issues. Older vintage aircraft needed aileron trim more so if the fuel selector only fed off one side. The constant heavy wing becomes an issue and is fatiguing changing tanks ever 30/45 minuets.
