I really appreciated this video, which I have watched three times with my RC in my hands, mimicking the required inputs to generate muscle memory for the flight dynamics desired. The exercises were great. As a licensed private pilot (ASEL) this all makes perfect sense to me. Tomorrow, I will fly my Autel Evo Nano+ for the 1st time! Thanks!

@@bob_the_bomb4508 Thanks for the feedback . . . sound has always been the challenge I've battled, unfortunately. On my systems, this mix sounds pretty good - but I've heard from folks before that it was too loud so you're not alone in your opinion. I even left off music entirely, but then people said they needed the music for those gaps in the video when I'm not talking - it let them know the video was still running and hadn't locked. LOL I wish KZbin would let me re-render the video and overwrite this one - I'd turn down the music and see how it sounds. Unfortunately, I can't do that. I'd have to wipe this one out and then re-upload to a different address. :( I'll keep tinkering with it and try to keep it quieter.

I concur that sound may be distracting for some but for all the reasons you state above the pro's outweigh the con's. Pilots are always bombarded with distractions and to learn to tune them out is an important part in learning how to react to the unexpected.

This is a great "go to" video for new (and experienced) alike. The way you demonstrate how sticks affect flight is especially well done. Anything that a pilot can master that lets him/her confidently fly WITHOUT the automated features most drones now have brings that much enjoyment to flying. Again... a very well done video.
@JeffSibelius5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Fred! I agree with you that mastering the basic skills is critical before you dive into the programmed flight modes. Selfies and journeys and CCC are all well and good, but ultimately, you have to be able to control the aircraft and understand the limits of its safety features and you only get that from practicing the basic stick controls until you get them down.

The Evo is a solid, reliable drone. For most people it's probably the one I would recommend. If you get one, you'll love it. If you have an older drone you might be able to trade it in to Autel and bring the price of the Evo down a little - that's a program they just started.

Hi Jeff. I'm an old guy who has just gotten into the hobby. I recently acquired a Yuneec Q500 4k. I've flown it a couple of times and am enjoying the challenge of flight. I've watched most of your videos on the Q and now, my question is, should I update my firmware to the 1.1.07? The firmware I'm running now is 1.4 . Besides the ability to use the wizard are there other benefits that I would gain worth the update. One more question is, the antenna mod, like I've seen on one your transmitters does it make a obvious difference in range. Thanks for all you do for us newbies to the hobby. Dan
@JeffSibelius5 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel - Go ahead and update. There were some camera settings added in one of the firmware versions but I don't remember which version. All the Q firmware versions were pretty stable so it's a good idea to go with the latest. I don't use any mods on my transmitters. I had one for a short time but sold it. I understand that these mods do extend the range but I would guess they will terminate your warranty if you do them. The Q is definitely not a long range bird, although it's easy to see at a distance. You should be able to go out 800 to 1000 feet with it depnding on your location.

Thanks for getting back to me. And for your advice. Going to do the update as per your update video. The Q is a beast, but I'm enjoying flying it and it's taking some great vids. Thanks again.

At takeoff time I have the drone camera facing forward, (I am behind it facing the same direction) but when I look at my google maps the red arrow on google maps is pointing to my left. Is that normal? Am I wrong thinking that the red arrow(on google maps) should be facing in the same direction as the front of my evo? Hi Jeff, great video and I'm glad I watched it before my maiden flight... did practice your rectangle several times to get a feel but a way's to go yet. I did have one strange thing happen, I tried the low battery return to home which it did, shot up in the air to 120 feet which was a bit of a surprise but I did know about it and it did what it was supposed to , it then came back but stopped about 6 feet away and just hovered, I could get it to go up but not down or left or right, it was bleeping but that was likely as I was in front of it, but I guess it should have been controllable still, I had to walk over to it and put my hand underneath it then it came down on my palm and shut off.... hasn't done it since but I haven't tried the low battery back to home since... any ideas..? Cheers

Thanks for the vid. Curious... you did not calibrate prior to flying? You don't have to calibrate prior to each flight?
@JeffSibelius5 жыл бұрын
Hi M - no, you don't need to calibrate before each flight. Times when you should calibrate include: Prior to the first flight If you see the Evo flying erratically, or circling in a toilet bowl behavior while hovering If the Autel Explorer app tells you you need a calibration After you do a firmware update After traveling a long distance - like when I took it from Texas to Arizona Normally though, you don't need to calibrate before a flight.

Just got my EVO. Coming from the Q5004k I expected a better camera. My EVO photos are very blurry and video isn't great at all. Am I missing something? Is there a camera lens calibration on the EVO? Or could mine be faulty. And I don't want to even talk about the EVO's auto exposure that's constantly moving. I've been flying my Q5004k for 4 years so I'm not a beginner. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.
@JeffSibelius5 жыл бұрын
A few thoughts about your post. If you're shooting in normal conditions there's no reason why the Evo should be blurring stills. I could see it in low light conditions or with a heavy ND filter where the shutter speed is very slow, but otherwise - no. Do you know what your shutter speed is for the blurry shots? Stupid question - is there any film or protective layer over the lens? I actually flew my first Mavic Pro flight with the plastic cover on the lens and was seriously pissed off at how blurry the shots were LOL. regarding the blur it may well be a defective camera - the image should not be blurry at all unless your shutter speed is extremely low. I think the Evo has the most reactive light metering I've ever seen on a camera - I'm suprised more reviewers haven't said that. It's an easy fix though; tap on the screen where you want the camera to meter to and that will lock the exposure until you change it. It actually can be a positive for getting proper exposure. You've been spoiled with the Q500 LOL. I've always felt the Yuneec cameras give the nicest video straight out of the camera - better than DJI, Autel or anyone else. The other drones' video does clean up very easily in post - apply a litlte constrast, brightness, maybe some saturation, and it's good.
