Been having this side knee pain for a month now. At first I had the trouble of identifying it and thought it was the popliteus muscle so went for that in your channel. Then one day I bent the knee while layed down on the side and the sensation you mentioned was clearly in the boney part of the side knee. Also felt it during the piriformis stretch when putting foot on the other knee. I ALWAYS thought the pain in foam rolling the IT band was normal and meant it was getting the job done. Also went as far as using a massage gun in that area. (Just heard it mentioned in the video you added in comments!).Thanks for talking about this again. I would’ve never made the connection.

Thanks for this video! I need this! Funny thing, though: I don’t have a vastus lateralis in my left quad due doctors extracting a flap of skin to save my arm. They couldn’t close the wound with a normal procedure, so they had to remove the VL. It was a whole thing.

I hurt the area around the greater trochanter golfing. It feels like the IT was pulled a bit. It only hurts as I finish the swing, but not walking or doing other exercises like squats or dead lifts. I’ve been rolling the gluteus medius but not the other muscles the way you show. I will try this.

If the pain comes more down the front of the kneecap, what would that be? I tried seeing a doctor about it but she just dismissed it as tight IT band.. but I've never had noticeable pain down the outside of the knee.. it's mainly when I jog for more than 1.5km or walk 20km, not sure if it's runner's knee. but if I go for a run, I can hardly walk after it kicks in, but then it will be basically gone the next day..

Stop running first of all for a few days. It’s most likely your quad pulling on your knee. That is what happened with me. Just foam roll and stretch your quads.
@Whitehorseandryder3 ай бұрын
@@jruntz7 Yeah for sure, I have been forced to stop running because of how painful it gets. I have been rolling and massaging quads lately and stretching the band more, so hopefully that helps for me too like it did for you. Just curious, but I constantly have knots in the top of my calves, both on the inside and outside,.. do you have issues with that as well? I'm wondering if it's related to a-bit-flat arches and maybe some kind of hip or back alignment issue.. I spend a lot of time stretching glutes and they seem always fairly tight too
@jruntz73 ай бұрын
@@Whitehorseandryder Yours sounds more severe though. It could also be a meniscus problem as well like a strain or tear.
