I wanna do it to my brass flashlight. Do you recommend it? I mean....will the fumes do any harm to glass tip or electronics of the flashlight?

If it were me I’d go for it. I really don’t think it would be an issue. But I’m not 100% so I just want to be up front. I might also recommend taping up areas that you want to protect. Please keep me posted though because I am looking at a brass light option at the moment!

@@FrankBenlin Hey mate. No i didn't. 😀 It patinad naturally really nice by now. We are talking about Prometheus Beta QRv2 in brass. But i used your trick/advice and did it to my brass key hook and it's awesome.

Was the brass coated/lacquered (i.e., did you have to remove a lacquered finish) before you started the patination?

Great question. My experience is that you need raw (uncoated) brass. The lacquer serves to prep text it from oxidation so it won’t allow the aging process to work

Yeah, a lot of shiny brass is lacquered. If in doubt, prob be a good idea to wipe it down well with lacquer thinner initially. And, it might help with the plastic stand problem if you used " painters pyramids." At the very least it would allow you to only have to flip the brass one time at the halfway point.

You just can't get unlacquered brass in the UK, so none of these vinegar techniques work. Its annoying! I even tried leaving my hinges in paint stripper to get the lacquer off, but it hasn't worked. If anyone has found a way aorund this, happy to hear about it..

that's interesting. Is Air Plane stripper available there? I've had great results with it for stripping virtually anything.

@@the_Mike_McCoy in some places the formula used in airplane stripper (sometimes called Naval gel) has been changed from what it used to be made of because of environmental regs. They definitely don't work they used to. Maybe that's his problem?

Or use fire and get a patina quicker lol
