Today we'll be forging a knife using a piece of 5/8" rebar. Rebar knives are a lot of fun to make and they have been great for practicing my forging skills. I've gotten a lot better at forming hot steel since I've been making these.
Thanks for watching and enjoy!

Hi Nick! Before my step-dad passed last year to cancer, he watched and loved your videos. You inspired him. You gave him life. He decided to get outside and make Bows through his final years. I am convinced he would have passed much earlier had it not been for this hobby. Thanks for all you do!

Seriously, Nick, you should do a book for backyard smithing like you did for bows and atlatls. Your current books are staples for getting bows made for friends and neighbors, a forging book would be icing on the cake.

nice! I see your really getting into the arts. I've been watching you since the snaky curve bow which I have tried and learned a lot. Did you know plumbers have a special heating pad for pvc. No fumes, scorching and so much quicker. About this project I just wanted to say that I seen a few things you could do to really make this knife stronger. First aligning the metal grains, this is done by heating the stock knife to 1500 degrees - then dunk into 350 degree oil (a crock pot) do this three times. Second heat blade to 1500 again and let air cool three times. After that step put into a toaster over at 350 degrees for 2 hours air cool then sharpen blade edge to a 19 degree bevel. wash with a mild acid to make grain pop out and since you asked about new ideas. I challenge you to take some beach sand and make some clear glass art and then how about some fishing lures.✌

You seem to be a born metal worker! Old addage but true. "He who would, a good edge win; must forge thick and grind thin". Always leave enuff steel to remove the "skin" where some of the essential attributes of the steel have been burned away. Don't leave your stamps in prolonged contact with heated metal. Other than that Splendid Job of it!! You got the gift, for forging!
