Hello there :) nice video. congratulations ! a question came to my mind. I wonder if the use of coma is mandatory? Could you please clarify it? Thanks :)
@EspressoEnglishNet6 жыл бұрын
Good question! You should use the comma in sentences with longer phrases, like "Not only does he play guitar, he also writes his own songs." But when the phrases/words are short: "She is not only beautiful but also very smart" the comma is optional... although personally I think it's still better to use it.

@EspressoEnglishNet6 жыл бұрын

@Mark-rf6pe3 жыл бұрын
hananesassi364 , As far as I know, it differes, whether you want to emphasise the verb, adjective, etc e.g. I not only drink water but also eat apples- verb emphasising, whereas I drink not only water but also juice - noun emphasising. Another one, She is not only beautiful but also intelligent - adjective one and the final flourish; he speakes not only powerfully, but also strongly - adverb emphasing used with comma for double emphasising!

Dear, teacher , thank you for your lesson, it is really helpful. I tried to use "not only .. but also" for me academic writing, however, I have a little problem , could you look at this sentence for me please? Not only could it provide a desirable place for employees to socialize with each other, but it also help in reducing. my grammar teacher who is also native speaker, said I have already used ‘it’ before; so, repeating it is inappropriate. So , I am little bit confused, could you please advise ? thank you so much :)
@EspressoEnglishNet5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I think "it" is fine to repeat, especially since the first part of the sentence is so long! Note: you need to have "it also HELPS" (not help) :-)

Hi there, thanks for your video. In the last case, for instance, using the aux Will, is it possible to say: "Not only will I learn grammar, but I also will pratice it"
@EspressoEnglishNet6 жыл бұрын
Almost! It's just more common to say "but I will (or: I'll) also practice it." I don't think there's necessarily a rule there, it's just the way the word order typically is.

Not only does she eat chips, but she also "shared" chips to everyone. The first mistake is the structure. It's not " but also she shared..." It's "but she also shared" The other mistake is the time clause, in the first part you are talking in present but then you used past simple...I don't know if it's possible to mix "time clauses" I hope you see my comment :)
