This video shows us installing a concrete driveway that'll be used for a parking area. We had to form, install a mat of rebar, pour and broom finish the concrete for this slab.
The concrete slab sloped to one side a few inches to shed rain water. The 6 inch thick slab on a 2 foot thick gravel pad is how we do most our concrete driveways here in Maine. We get freezing temperatures from December to March and the 2 feet of gravel usually prevents the slab from heaving in those cold temperatures.

As a person who just enjoys your videos, it would be nice to see the finished product video of you cutting the seams and what the final slab looks like. Thanks for sharing Mike.

Excellent video with great explanations. You definitely are a master of the trade. You are so right about having a crew that has worked together so long, making it easy. Have you seen any problems waiting too long to saw cut your joints, meaning slab cracks before saw cut.

What is your opinion on guys that just bullfloat and then broom without troweling? That's how a lot of guys do it in GA on driveways.

I started learning about concrete in early 2000's with a commercial and industrial construction company in Canada. We faced extremely strict pour guidelines and there was always an Engineer on site hovering over every pour. This video is the closest thing I have seen that comes close to that. You are WAY above and beyond 90% of the contractors I have seen over the years. Well done.

How common is it for a homeowener to do everything except pour and finish a concrete slab themselves? In other words, excavate and build the form themselves then hire someone to pour and finish the slab itself.
@MikeDayConcrete

It's not very common but some do it.

This time of year not so much (as in the video) if the temps are colder that could help if you leave them on longer.

I'm building a house in SE Idaho. I have a lot of exterior flatwork to do (driveway and patios will be around 80 yards). If i were to tackle this myself with a few high schoolers, how many trucks would you suggest we try to tackle? Is one truck probably all we could handle? Could we maybe do 2 trucks per day? My plan would be to knock it all out in sections over the summer. Appreciate your content. Thanks in advance.

the darvey, (I'm sure I said it wrong). Kirk Giordano Plastering, always talks about that. As he does plastering, and stucco. I think in San Fran, the bay area, and among other things, and has a great channel, and been doing it like 40 years, like you and he's also very professional and explains everything like you do to the lay person. If you haven't seen his channel I encourage you to watch it, I think you would like it. I love watching you guys, it's amazing how you make it look so easy. But, it's like I tell most people, I could teach you, in about an hour, how to wire most, (about 75%), of a house, and ppl don't believe me. Great video.
