How To Format a 64GB, 128GB, or LARGER USB Flash Drive to FAT32 - EASY!

How to format a USB flash drive larger than 32GB to FAT32 by using a free program called FAT32 Format on Windows 10.
By default, you won't have an option to format a USB flash drive larger than 32GB to FAT 32, you will only have NTFS or exFAT as options in Windows 10.
But, some devices like Vizio TV's, some other brands of televisions, some cars etc... require that your USB flash drive is formatted to FAT32.
So what do you do when you have a 128GB or 256GB flash drive that you were going to use for videos with a TV, or for mp3s with a car?
Well, you could use PowerShell in Windows 10, but there is a MUCH easier way!
Just use the FREE program FAT32 Format. (Make a donation to the developer if you can afford it)
In the program, simply select the proper drive.
*MAKE SURE YOU ARE SELECTING THE CORRECT DRIVE!!!
When you format a drive, you ERASE EVERYTHING on that drive! So first, backup any files on the drive. And double check that you have selected the proper drive. If you select the WRONG drive, you WILL delete EVERYTHING on that drive - so, triple check it!
You can change the Allocation Size. Most people can just leave the setting alone. If you want to delve deeper into Allocation Size, give Google a search.
Change the name of the drive if you want, or leave it how it is.
Make sure 'Quick Format' is checked.
Click Start.
The process will only take a few seconds. Close the program when you are done.
Drag & Drop the video, music, or other files onto your newly formatted FAT32 drive.
And that's it. Take the drive to your TV, car, or other device, and everything should work just fine.

Had to use the wayback web archive to get it, but it LOOKS like, after taking forever to try to do it via command prompt overnight, only to wake up this morning and finding it failed, my 128gb card now appears to be formatted as FAT32, and it took less than 10 seconds. Sweet. Thank you for this!

In the Start menu, type cmd, and then click the entry for the cmd program. At the command prompt, enter diskpart (you might have to approve this operation as an administrator). The prompt line should now display "DISKPART". Enter list disk. Enter select disk X, where X is the number of your selected disk. Enter clean. Enter create partition primary. Enter select partition 1. Enter active. Enter format fs=fat32. Enter assign. Enter exit.

Just a question. I did these steps. Yes. You go to (properties) click on it and yes it shows format FAT32; but when you got to (THIS PC, format) it only shows exFAT and the other option. I’m trying to flash a BIOS, and it has to be FAT32. And I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to flash the Bios. So, this is process of elimination step one for me. How sure can I be if this flash drive is formatted in FAT32. Because it shows both. One in properties and one in this pc format.

Hey brother, i have a question. My phone has a limitation, it supports sd up to 16 gbs. I have already spent alot on memory cards and usbs and i dont want to spend more. I have a 64gb sd, is it possible to format it to fat32 and reduce the storage to 16gb aswell? Since i have multiple 128s up to 256 sd cards, i dont mind lowering this one to 16 (if its possible). sure this will work as long as your files are not larger than 4gb per file. this is my current issue im facing as i have a few files 5 - 8gb then you hit the fat32 file size limitation.
