arushi arora when it comes to copyright pages, Basically, you want: Title, subtitle, author name, copyright year and then some form of disclaimer geared towards your type of book.(ie. fiction books will have different verbiage than non-fiction) In regards to the disclaimer, something I’ve done in the past is checkout the other books in my genre to get an idea of what the competitors are doing. I don’t copy it, but it can help to get a feel for what the norm is for that genre. I hope this helps.

For the ebook, there is no back cover. And you’ll upload the front cover image as a separate image in the kdp upload process. According to KDP, the ideal ebook cover size is 1,600 x 2,560 pixels. Here are the kdp cover image guidelines: kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G6GTK3T3NUHKLEFX

I could do a video on this. Unfortunately, there’s no way I could accommodate every possible error that you may run into. Each formatting problem would have a separate resolution. @KeithWheelerBooks4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words. My philosophy is that a book should be as long as it needs to be to get the story across, affectively. I’ve read long books that are just full of fluff and do nothing to help the story along. In the busy times we live, there is definitely an audience for shorter books. As for the page count, if your book is currently 117 pages, fully formatted, then that’s what your final paperback will be.(though KDP may add an extra page so it ends on an even page count)
@tmac88924 жыл бұрын

I say again, I am old and cannot remember which file I used having used various kinds for different You Tube people, re-worked them, and saved them before finishing and lose track of which ones I should go back to. I remember you using a blank template which I now think is for the papeerback. Here with the ebook, I am finding that I have page margins of odd and even which are not needed in this form, right? How do I get rid of them for the whole book? Next, I am doing a one chapter commentary on the book of James. But, I have set them up as heading 2 in styles. In doing the TOC, I want to show them as level two as seen in some examples of pull down TOCs. Can I still use your method of book marks but use a tab insert reflecting that level? And lastly, when I do your upload, does it mean that it goes automatically to Kindle or just saved until I work through the Kindle process of publishing? I want to get everything done in one setting so I don't forget which and where I have saved as first mentioned above. Thanks again--you're good!.
@KeithWheelerBooks4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words. Let me see if I can answer all of your great questions. 1. Correct, since there is no gutter on ebooks, you can get rid of those margins. 2. You should be able to go to margins and select no margins. 3. Yes, you can have multiple “levels” in your TOC. 4. Yes, you’re uploading it to KDP, but as long as you don’t launch it, it won’t populate to the Amazon marketplace. I hope this helps.

@KeithWheelerBooks4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words. That’s so exciting about your kids books. Unfortunately, due to the cost of creating them, board book companies don’t do POD(print on demand). They use offset printing, instead. Which means that you have to actually purchase your books in batches(usually a minimum of 500 units). If you decide to go this route, you can apply for an Amazon Sellers account and still sell directly on Amazon. I hope this helps. Best of luck.

Hi Keith, hope you're well. I received my proof copy book today (at last!) and am pretty happy with the final result however my main concern was going to be the front cover I'd created as it looked blurred when I uploaded it. The final image on the front is sort of ok but still a bit blurred for my liking unfortunately. Open Question: If I've a manuscript and I want to publish it as an ebook and a print book, do I have to register two copyrights? Or does one copyright protect the work as a "whole" in all aspects (print, electronic)?
@KeithWheelerBooks4 жыл бұрын
I’m not a lawyer, but it would seem to me that, if the content is the same, one copyright should be fine, as you’re copyrighting the content(the manuscript, if you will) and not the format/product.

It really depends on the site. I typically choose to use pdf files as when they’re generated they typical stay formatted the way you set it up. That said, some platforms, like Draft2digital, don’t accept PDFs. In those cases, you’ll need to use a doc or docx file.

As long as formatting wise it's not visible, that should be fine. Just keep an eye that when it gets converted that it doesn't shift the text. If it does, you may need to flatten the pdf file. (A quick google search will show you how to do that)

Hi Keith, I am a huge fan and am so grateful for your tutorials. I have a couple questions though I hope you don't mind. One is that I uploaded my book on KDP and some of the pages seemed close together, for instance, pages that should appear as full are one-third of a page-sized and lumped together. Mostly the Title Page and a couple of others. I'm not sure how to fix these things. There is a page break immediately under should I elongate the page break? I also wonder about the photos I have about thirty at the end but you said the more pages the less money you make? It seems like everything is running together in the book as well. Is there supposed to be a blank page between chapters? Will that help? Any advice you have is greatly appreciated...I am on a very limited budget and I want to be able to make it look it's best but am definitely struggling. Thanks so much
@KeithWheelerBooks5 жыл бұрын
These are some great questions. When it comes to images, my first question is did you copy/paste the image in or “insert” it? Inserting it will have a better placement than copy/paste. Also, it sounds like you may have uploaded a doc file to KDP. I’ve found, especially with images, a pdf file works best when it comes to maintaining image placement and overall appearance. It is true that the more pages, especially if they have pictures, the higher the printing costs. But if that’s what is needed for your book then that’s fine, you’ll just either have to charge a bit more per book or make less profits on each and just focus on quantity of books sold. If you researched your competitors you’ll probably know the price range your potential reader is used to. As long as you stay within that range, you’ll have a fighting chance to compete. I hope this helps. Thanks again for your kind words!

Hi, thanks for this great video. I am writing a self-help book. Would you please answer these two questions? One, I would like to start off each chapter with a quote from a philosopher, scientist, educator, etc. The quote would come after the chapter title but before the start of the text. What is the least problematic way to set up a quote in Word 2016 before uploading it to KDP? Second, what is the best way to do footnotes in Word for my self-help book? KDP says you need to do them in Word as footnotes but in the e-book they will become endnotes. The superscript needs to be hyperlinked to the footnotes and vice-versa. Thanks!

Hi Keith, TOC question, for chapter titles, if you want each chapter title to say “Chapter 1: The Thrill” as opposed to just “The Thrill”, should I include the whole name “Chapter 1: The Thrill” in the TOC? Thanks so much! Also, for the eBook, do we set any margins or use the typical standard settings of 8 x 11 with 1 inch borders is good enough! Thanks!!!
@KeithWheelerBooks2 жыл бұрын
For the TOC, typically you’ll want it to match the chapter title. So, in your example, I’d leave the Chapter 1: The Thrill in the TOC. As for the ebook, you don’t have to worry about margins, etc. leaving them in is fine, but it shouldn’t effect it either way.

However, while on acx, when I get to the last step, 4, Review, it shows my description under 'About this title', all lumped together, no spacing, no paragraphs, no bullet points, nothing. Is that how its going to be shown once up on Audible? How do I correct this? This looks like the final step, would really appreciate it if you can help with this one too! (I went back and put some coding too such as [*] for bullet points but still the same no difference.) Also on acx it doesn't provide me with the option so far to upload the 2400 x 2400 cover art for my audiobook. Does that come after?

Unfortunately, acx/audible don’t allow html code for their description. It’s pretty plain as far as what they allow. As for the cover, once you’ve added your project into acx, then you can go to the pro toon tab and add in the cover. The good news is, the system won’t let you launch a project without a cover image.

As for the description, you can try to reach out to their help desk and see if they’ll adjust the text, but in general, you’ll have to go through and format it as best you can.(ie. Quick question Keith. Does the eBook need to have page numbers? Or can I avoid them since there is a TOC?
@KeithWheelerBooks5 жыл бұрын
Great question. Not only do you not need page numbers on the eBook, KDP actually strongly suggests that we don't use them for ebooks. Since the appearance differs slightly depending on the device used to read it as well as the font size selection made by the end user, page 5 on one reader may be page 6 on another. So for ebooks, just leave the page number off.
