Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I'm totally self taught by watching YT videos, and have really struggled with making this stitch. Your video is nice and slow for someone like me. I love how you show up close WHERE to put the stitches! That's the hardest part of this journey. Have a very Merry Christmas.

Excellent explanation! I recently retired after 25 years of teaching middle school FACS, which included hand and machine sewing, cooking, etc. I didn't teach it during the regular school year, but I did teach single crochet to make a scarf and hand embroidery or counted cross-stitch as part of a summer school enrichment class for about 10-ish years. I'm curious. Do you use your videos as your method of introducing the stitches? I started with demonstrating live under a document camera but progressed to videos when that technology became more readily available. In fact, all my students' sewing projects were self-paced with them watching the videos on their own or in twos & threes. I became primarily the coach because I was able to reteach or reinforce lessons one-to-one when students got stuck.

I do use my videos when teaching the kids how to crochet. I find that they pick up the information faster that way. I am there guiding them with any extra help that they need. I love that you taught FACS as well! There are not a lot of us out there! :)

I love your clear and close up demonstration. I have a couple of questions: 1) if you look at it vertically as you are progressing, the right side is the top and left is the bottom ... when you finish the number needed, your hook is at the top (right) and skein of yarn is left -- how do you transition to the next row? 2) is the 1st row that is automatically created the right side of the work? thank you!
@hopecornerfarmcrochet

When going to the next row, I usually chain one, and it is a slight flip of the work rather than the usual turn for other crochet rows. And yes, it is!

If I chain 1, I would chain 1, turn and go into the 1st stitch. With a half double crochet stitch (for the second row) you could alternately chain 2, turn, and then go into the second stitch. Either method works. Hope this helps! Happy crocheting! :)

Are you talking about when you chain and then put the first stitches into the chain for the next row? If so yes!
