Excellent tutorial. Is there a video on covering the previous window from the outside with cement board siding? Thanks.
@bakecookandcreate99482 жыл бұрын
So now, how do you cover up the ply wood part to match up with the rest of the outside wall?
@HouseImprovements2 жыл бұрын
In this case it is getting all new siding eventually. But you could patch in some siding if you find the same stuff.

I was thinking the same thing. He addressed the issue that it was cut too short but in the end showed a very simple fix. He didn't try to hide the fact that a mistake was made. That's what made me hit the subscribe button.

I wish there was a video on resizing a concrete wall opening. I need to put in a smaller window into a much larger basement window opening. Too much reduction to use wood only. No cinderblocking either.

I want close off a window from the inside with drywall. I want to keep the window in place. Is this possible? It adds minimal light into my bedroom and quite frankly I’m hardly in there during the day. I want to build a closet system along that section of wall.
@markmueller27782 жыл бұрын
Sorry if I missed it, but why didn't you just make the premade insert go all the way to the top of the cut out? Instead it was short several inches and you said you'd show why, but I don't think I ever saw the reason why. Thanks!
@HouseImprovements2 жыл бұрын
Good question. LOL. I assume I was just keeping that top piece of the pre made frame work one piece right from side to side?
@claudiaihl6692 Жыл бұрын
I just reframed a similar size window. Very helpful vid. One question: you used only a single trimmer board on the sides of the window. I've seen others use double trimmers, but is that really necessary? Cheers
@HouseImprovements Жыл бұрын
Double trimmer on openings over 10' is the rule but i normally double them on anything over 8'
@robertmccarty3897 Жыл бұрын
I was told by inspections and code 7ft or more but for a rule just add double make all people happy

I've moved into a house where the attic window frame does not fit the space, there is a gap on the right which is not protected from outside elements. What can I do to fix iit without having to remove the whole frame?
@matthewdineen63663 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you follow these comments but what if you're doing this on a house built in the 1950's that doesn't have house wrap? I'm trying to remove an old window and replace with wall. Right now there is just T&G solid wood sheeting between the cedar siding and the 2x4s.
@HouseImprovements3 жыл бұрын
Usually there would at least be black tar paper under the siding but it seems not in this case. Not really much point in adding anything in this small area if the rest of the house has nothing IMO. Next time try our forum when you have a question.www.house-improvements.com/forums/

I just watched this video. I am going to be closing up a window I have in my bathroom. We do not want the window there anymore. I see that you installed plywood to cover up the outside. Is there any kind of moisture barrier that will be installed over the plywood?
@HouseImprovements7 жыл бұрын
In this case the entire exterior was being re done so it was later covered in house wrap and new siding

I’m remolding my bathroom and there’s going to be a window in the shower. I really don’t want there to be and I don’t have a choice. Anyway the window is big and I’m looking to make it smaller (height wise) the width is fine. I want the window high enough so water won’t splash and moister or mold build up. However, the window sits on a cemented foundation. Question… to make it smaller (height wise) is it best to use cement on to build the window frame or use wood? I want to make sure I’m correctly modifying the window to prevent any issues from the inside or out. Any feedback from HouseImprovements or anyone I would appreciate it. Thank you.

If you are removing it and replacing with a new smaller window,then why not just take it out and fill in the opening completely? Come to my forum if you have more questions.www.house-improvements.com/forums/

I love your videos and thank you for posting them. But I was wondering if you are extra generous with your nail count or are you following code spacing? I ask respectfully, you are top notch!
@HouseImprovements11 жыл бұрын
Nailing for exterior sheathing should be nailed every 150mm (6") on joints and 300mm (12") along intermediate supports, by code.

@Iamthathillbilly6 жыл бұрын
musicfun he said in a different comment that the entire exterior of the house was going to be redone anyways, if that wasn’t the case a siding repair would be in order
