I just got a pair of these skates and it took a few days, but I can get myself going from a standstill, and ride around the block for a short time, still have to build up the muscles for this. The best advice I can give to others learning is, to not try too hard. trying to force the movements gave me a ton of bad habits to start with.

Does it feel similar to riding a ripstick? Would getting proficient on a ripstick be a good stepping stone for someone who might be slow at learning this kind of thing? (I’m getting old 🤓🤪)

I haven’t skated on a board since I was a teen (22 years!) and I wasn’t good enough for it to all come back to me like “riding a bike” I guess. But this looks like a fun challenge that would help me get in shape and something to do with my 11 yo son. Just worried about it being TOO challenging and giving up too fast (for both of us. Adhd problems)

Hi! It has a similar learning curve to riding a bike. It's a super fun challenge. It's more like a snakeboard than a ripstik. We have many riders who have never skated before on anything that ride. It's so unique and fun you can start fresh with zero experience

so i got mine today and after about 5 minutes of trying them out by holding onto the back of a pickup truck my lower back began to hurt lol that experience was on and off. what does ring true is the muscle workout on the legs Jeff mentions. i feel like this is gonna be an experience similar to the one i had with the Skatecycle where it took me like 10 hrs to finally be able to ride the thing. that thing is a workout too lol

Today mine came and after 2,5 hours i did my first move (not down hill) little Pump slow but i did it! My left leg that is my main one is not flexy like right leg bc i ride waveboard for 4 years and i have been using mainly right leg to get speed so rn im bout to work on that This tutorial is awesome finally good source on internet! Update: this is my second day of riding those! I finally can ride for a while on flat surface My pumps got bigger and speed increased. After 3 hours of practicing my legs feel like they are about to fall off I'll try to update evry day or if i make a bigger progress Update: this is my third day. Today i wasnt in school bc of my cough so i went on to practice I cloudnt do anything more on my spot so i decided to ride I was actually riding! I still have problem to start and i can't place my right leg properly idk why but if i start and finally have a good leg set I can ride, the worst part is starting i cant really gain speed to do pumps :c, but if i do i can ride for a while. After yerstday my legs feels like they are going to fall off. It's only 10 am so i think im gonna continue this day uptades on evening. But im pretty proud of myself and i will keep going untill i learn how to free skate. Im getting these wierd looks from ppl when im riding... Is it the same in America? Im from Poland and i dont think that there are many ppl riding those but i feel stressed while they look at me (U probably got epilepsy reading this sorry)

My 3rd day, 1h per day. Going straight works okayish until I accelerate "so much" I jump off to be on the safe side. Minimal inclination. My main question atm is how people move their skates inside and out with such ease when that goes against the wheels. Could you make a video where the camera does a close up on the feet (stirring motion) and slow-mo? E.g. in this one, you are showing foot placement around 1:50 but first with a distant camera showing whole body, than feet hidden, then on the feet moving but for less than a second. Even at 0.25 speed I cannot really see it well. (others say it helped them a lot :-). Also: There is a video of a Chinese girl showing to move the feet back and forth like a walking motion (while rolling sidewalks, no idea how she does that against the wheels) and where they say "do not balance with your upper body". kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5zWeaiJnNqGjLM Then there is a guy explaining the pump movement comes from turning feets inwards and outwards. And upper body turn motion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJjLYaanfMaWpLc Herr another one where the upper body does lots of the work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqfdhWuGhaaDq7c Are those different pumping methods?

Hi, how free skates fare upon facing irregularities on the ground, such as cracks, crevices, small obstacles, leaves, twigs, etc.

You definitely want to avoid those things if possible. If you have a good amount of speed, most small objects shouldn't be an issue. Large cracks should definitely be avoided.

I love FreeSkates, and it it’s my dream to learn them. Though there is one past incident that I haven’t forgotten about and it’s been making me want to find out if I can sell my FreeSkates to someone. Here’s what happened. I was going to learn how to pump. I had somewhat learn how to balance so I wanted to test myself by going down a sorta 10 degree road. It was going well until, I fell. My leg hurt for days and I hit my head. Thankfully I didn’t hit it so hard or I would be saying this. Ever since that incident I haven’t touched my FreeSkates for about a month or two, and I don’t know what to do. My dad got me some equipment but I’m still scared of getting hurt. What should I do?
@jmkride Жыл бұрын
1) Make sure you have proper pads and helmet. 2) Take it slow. If you are going at an uncomfortable speed, you're likely trying to progress too quickly. Take your time, trust the process, and remember to step off early rather than hang on too long.

I’m trying my best to learn this with knockoffs I got for 30 bucks. But there’s no roundness to the wheels. I’m getting somewhere but I’m at a stand still because I can’t pump with the wheels. If I got your brand free skates, with a more rounded wheel would it be easier to learn?
@jmkride4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the rounded wheels do help with fluidity, but the biggest difference will honestly be in the bearings. Knockoffs skates are very stiff in comparison, and the JMKs are notoriously easier to learn on as a result. They’ll also last longer in general. Also, we do recommend using a slight decline to get you moving. Similar to riding a bike, momentum will make it easier to balance. Hope that helps!
@crumpledpaper88974 жыл бұрын
Ok got it, and I have been using a slight decline so it really shows the bad quality of knock offs. Thanks for the advice
