I resell vintage clothes and just started adding vodka into my steamer when I steam out wrinkles... works great because it penetrates the fibers

Will spraying vodka on leather damage it? I want to spray the lining of a purse I thrifted but the areas with zippers have leather and I’m afraid to ruin them.
@CriteriaVintage Жыл бұрын
I would just cover the leather parts so you can spray the fabric! Alcohol can strip the finish on leather.

Can’t the vodka be replaced with isopropyl alcohol?

Yes, it can... but honestly I've found that to not be quite as effective.

Watching this after I had burn stains left on my clothing from spraying vodka in my closet. I didn't use a misting spray bottle, and I think vodka can burn and leave stains on certain fabrics. Some polyester, rayon, cotton/ silk, tencel/lyocell got burned and stained. Will have to dye them a darker color now 😞 Wish I never followed this tip (from someone else). Wouldn't essential oils be too strong on the clothes? I know you should not apply them directly to skin, so I am wondering about clothes.

Were the Vodka stains able to come out after the clothes were dry cleaned or washed?? Never heard of Vodka staining fabric, thank you for the warning ⚠️

Hey there! I've never had vodka ruin any clothing... but always recommend testing it on a conspicuous area of the garment if there is some concern with fiber content!

Is lemon flavored vodka fine to use? I don’t have any straight vodka at the moment
@CriteriaVintage Жыл бұрын
I’ve never used a “flavored” vodka so I can’t advise you there. I think plain vodka is best!

You want to use plain unflavored Vodka.

Won't spraying a suit with vodka leave it flammable 😮?
@stickymonkeyflower11 ай бұрын
While it's wet it might be flammable, although the presence of the water would put a damper on that. (80 proof vodka is 40% ethanol, 60% water). Once the ethanol evaporates though it's in the air, not in the clothes. And the ethanol will evaporate faster than the water because it has a lower boiling point. So if the suit is dry to the touch the ethanol is essentially gone and there should be no additional flammability risk.

Yes, why straight Ethyl alcohol instead of Wodka. Got to attack this stench. Got to. Cigarette soaked solid leather. Once was a nice piece.

I just bought a beautiful deep brown leather jacket on eBay. They used a horrible picture so I was the only bidder.. I got a jacket for $17 because of that terrible picture, and nine dollar shipping. So for $26 I expected to get this three-quarter length leather coat with a removable fur collar.. what I got, was one of the softest leather coats I ever felt. Deep, rich, brown color, no damage, metal zippers all worked, none of the pockets were blown out, and when I searched the two zip covered inside pockets., find $45 in cash.. The jacket does have a bit of a musty smell, not like, mold, or mildew, definitely not cigarettes or body oil or perspiration, I don’t know what it is. I’m going to let the coat hang outside in the sun on a wide, leather jacket, hanger, and I’m going to spray the quilted lining that does not zip out and the removable fake fur collar with vodka and see if that works I like the tip of adding essential oils. I have known for years that you can mix 90% warm water with 10% lemon juice to remove mildew from leather. It works in a split second removing mildew. And you mentioned using lemon oil mixed with the vodka. I think I will try that also. Thank you.
@horacesawyer248729 күн бұрын
Please do report what you did to the magical leather jacket that came to you as a blessing from eBay. You had a problem with odor. Thank you for the tip on removing mildew from leather. My problem is a leather jacket, a protective thick leather made from solid thick leather, that is so soaked with awful cigarette stench that it made me sick shortly after opening the package. Got to do something drastic. It once was a nice green color. Do not want to ruin it more than it is already.

If anyone out there has cats, please do not use essential oils! Their small livers cannot filter it and its really toxic for them . Try a bit of downy softner or pellets
