Here is a tip. Im 57 and when I was a kid/teenager all jeans came in the raw stiff version the gap was nowhere I knew of in nyc. So, we would simple sleep in our jeans and usually that overnight session would loosen the up enough to make them wearable until you could brea them in.

Then mom would hang them out to dry and they'd be as stiff as new again. For a few weeks anyway. About the same age. I remember when rich kids in the 70s and 80s started getting pre shrunk and then pre faded jeans, way before "distressed". I wanted some pre anything jeans so bad, but out where we lived jeans got a workout. I was wearing steel toed Red Wings by the time I was 8, driving a 10 ton wheat truck into town alone by 12 y/o, and throwing square bales to the top of a semi trailer when I was 17. Levies' were expensive and we weren't rich. Most of us kids had like 2 pr at a time and 1 pair for church...that would be next years work jeans. I needed every good day I could squeeze out of them. So no pre anything for us kids. They would be faded bone white with knees blown out in less than a year but super comfortable...only then we weren't allowed to wear'em to school unless mom patched the knees!! Oh hell no! I'd have to play hooky from embarrassment! Todays best Levies' wouldn't last a month.

I wear a lot of heavy denim. When I deal with button holes in jeans or jackets that are to tight I do a simple fix. There is a large sharpie which size is perfect to stretch out button holes. Just push through slowly and twist slightly back and forth but keep checking how much your stretch the hole often to not overstretch it. Worked great with 33oz jeans and my heaviest jacket at 25oz.

It's from SoSo clothing. Ordered there 25oz Taishoku denim and designed a really simple jacket for myself. No upper pockets and just simple side ones. Dark threads with dark hardware. Very minimalistic except for how thick it is. Still breaking it in! It's first winter is coming up.

As a kid, growing up skateboarding, Levis 501s were the choice. As many of you know, skateboarding is hard on shoes, mainly the side of yer front foot, from ollieing. We would take the tag of the waist band, at that time it was still heavy leather. We'd punch a few holes for shoelaces and lace it onto our shoe where it just hung and protected your shoe.

That's the beauty of raw denim. Weight isn't the end all, the fabric is. Currently relaxing in my 21oz Iron Heart jeans. They are a PAIN when brand new/just washed, but soften up very nicely as they break. After wearing heavy denim regularly, regular jeans feel like pajamas.

No offense, I've been riding motorcycles for 12 years and can't recommend wearing jeans at all. If you have an accident, the material burns into your skin and has to be cut out. I know that Iron Heart is half trying to reach motorcycle riders as a target group but thats not good. It's better to ride with real motorcycle pants, preferably made of leather and, above all, with protectors.

I have 2 pairs of the unbranded 21 oz jeans. If you struggle with finding durable enough pants, these are amazing. After break in, they are comfy and flexible enough to work in but super durable and tough.

Another excellent video! Wow, 40oz.. I wasn't hip. I knew about N&F 32oz, but I missed out. I do have 2 of IH 25oz, a 21oz, 17oz, and 14oz. And a Samurai-jeans x Oldblue 21oz. The 21oz IH is so soft out of the bag. The 17oz and 25oz are more crisp and stiff at first. 25oz turns into a pair of sweatpants just as your friend said about the 40oz. The 17oz I haven't had the pleasure of breaking in yet. If you've read this far, thank you for all you do. Excellent video

Of all the heavy jeans I’ve had, the 21oz Iron Hearts were the best. Basically a 501 cut and the fabric was no where near as stiff as Unbranded after the initial starch wore out.

Love this video. Had my N&F 12.5 natural indigo selvedge over the summer. Love the lighter weight. About 12 wears in now on some new IH-777-xhs for this winter and they’re getting to be genuinely enjoyable. Don’t know if I have any interest in going much past 25oz, break in on these was no joke, but you’ve got me “somewhat more curious”.

I remember the first time putting on 18oz big slub jeans and thinking like uh oh I spent a bunch of money on something I can't move in, but they broke in and now I've been wearing the 22oz big slub UB denim selvedge jeans as like my go to pair. I like that the warp and weft use slub yarn too. The heavy weight is somewhat calming. Wish I could afford iron heart. But I have 4 pair of indigo jeans that are in need of a good fade, and I did order a pair of momotaro 15.7oz slightly used for $75. So no more jeans... until black Friday... unless I find some work. Probably would get some nice boots or a Schott jacket if I was working though. Okay I'm going too far off subject. Sorry

I wear Brave Star Denim True Straight jeans everywhere except to work. I have them from 12 to 21.5 oz, 14-16 seems to be perfect for most days of the year. The 21.5 oz ones were pretty tough to break in, and way too hot unless it's winter. I can't imagine 40 oz jeans, that's crazy.

It's more durable. Jeans were originally work pants for miners. Fashion-wise, heavier denim fades are more visually interesting.

As far as I know, SoSo makes the heaviest denim that you can regularly purchase at 33oz called TBOL (The Breaker of Legs). It's a denim they have woven specifically for them on a vintage GA1515 thats been modified specifically to weave the 33oz denim. Crazy stuff lol.

Great, entertaining video. I was all about raw denim back in 2007-2011. Been out the game since then. But I thought Iron Heart 21 OZ Superblack Jeans were tough. Also, it’s pretty wild to find out N&F made the heaviest jeans. I remember they were considered entry level raw denim.

You got the denim bug. Be careful you can only wait one pair at a time. It's really easy to get caught up into the different variations that like N&F releases and feel like yr missing out. But if yr talking about the UB 22oz big slub... I'd get them. They're like $118 shipped on their site. I have a pair and the warp and weft use slub yarn, which is rare. But I love mine and have been wearing them the most. Then I got some 15.7oz momotaro jeans Monday and they're a little slimmer than I expected but they also sit lower than I like. I'd have sized up if they weren't resale, but they were $75. I remember my first pair were 13oz, then I got myself 18oz and at first I was nervous, but just remembered it's only cotton... and follow Mikey's advice, buy yr normal waist size, I like a little extra room in my jeans. Stay safe out there. Money can go fast, but it is fun.

I have a pair of Unbranded 21oz selvedge. Way too heavy IMO, although finally after the first wash I can actually button them up without pulling a muscle. I also have a pair of Nudie 14oz selvedge, yet to be worn in, and the difference is staggering. I think 16oz is the heaviest I will go in the future.

I've got a pair of TSG SG7103 jeans that are nigh on unwearable. The back of the fabric is literally like the underside of a piece of carpet. Cool looking, but they take skin off my knees. Not surprised to hear that the 9903s are tough, but I'd give em a shot!

Gustin's value is undeniable and (from my personal experience) they have outlasted my pair of Naked and Famous jeans that I wore in rotation with my Gustin Jeans. No shade on N&F as they are great jeans but the Gustins were less expensive, and more durable in my experience.

Back in the 80's we'd wash our jeans in warm water, then put them on wet. After that, you wear them 24/7 for a couple of days. Then you have the perfectly broken jeans. And yes, the process is absolute torture. The chaffing... omg.

UB 22oz big slub is a very textured denim. Both the warp and weft use slub yarn , I've worn them about 10 days now. Apparently I bought a pair of used momotaro 15.7oz jeans. Can't wait to get them.

I'm glad I got into the world of denim. I own 7 pairs (that have to do with the hobby). Couple oni denim, n&f, samurai, Japan blue, etc. my heaviest pair(s) are the 20oz onis. One in the asphalt gradient and the other a greencast. Hands down some of my favorite clothing items I own AND comfortable, not a significant amount of wear btw. Hard to wear all my pairs since I don't go to my job in them. Point is, if you SIZE correctly and are particular on the fit and appliance of them, they will break in a little and even at a heavy weight, they're still comfy to wear. During the summer? Maybe not. But if you sweat and move around in em that way, hey that'll surely break em in faster. Also someone said they slept in theirs, I do that as well! I had a history of falling asleep in my stretch denim, so I just carried that over to selveged and it's been no problem. Just naps, if you take them. That is enough lol

Hey Michael, i found your channel when i was looking for a video about waxed jackets. I liked the video and you too, but i am not into the whole fashion youtube thing. At least, thats what i thought you were. I ended up buying a waxed jacket (Pike Brothers 1908 Miners Jacket) and i recently re-waxed it, found your channel again due to the tutorial video, and began snooping around. Today i watched this video and i found someone like me, someone who appreciates high quality goods, who has similar style, way of talking and sadly, also has a long distance girlfriend (time zones suck, amirite). Bought a €250 heavy, low waist pair of jeans from French brand Asphalt. Great quality, not comfortable Bought a €70 much lighter and higher waist pair from Cyrillus with a small percentage of stretchable material in the fabric. Never wore more comfortable pair of trousers, almost can go to bed in those.

Ok, two things! One, I’m loving your videos! And two, don’t give up at the end of them and wrap up too soon! This video could have used another few minutes of detail on the 40 OZr’s (imho) I’ve noticed you seem to wrap up a little soon at the end of some of your videos and either do what I just said here or jam in a bunch of info super fast while the credits are popping up.
