BIG question: does you or anyone else hit a mental block sometimes and end up doing the same tricks instead of working on new ones but you keep wanting to learn new ones and if so how do you get past it
@jasonlampa6 жыл бұрын
dude i know, i was stuck in that rut and have been stuck in that rut for many periods in my skateboarding life so far. it sucks, definitely, but honestly you are the master of your own destiny and you just have to try doing them (new tricks). go to the park earlier so you can warm up with your favorite tricks and an hour in or so you can start trying something new, i feel like it's best to not expect things too. like i used to want to learn laser flips like crazy so i kept trying them for months and got close a couple times but never got a good one, so not being able to land that trick just made me feel kinda shitty and my skating hit a plateau. then a couple years later i started learning transition and there were so many other tricks i could learn and it was like re-learning skating again, and i take that mentality to my street skating too, you can learn a lot of new tricks by combining the tricks you already have together, like if you can pop shuvit and you can 5050 go for a pop shuv 5050 kinda thing. i think going with the flow is pretty important in skating, keeps things fresh and interesting for me at least and it's a nice feeling to go home having learnt a trick you never really thought about, and of course an even better feeling when all those new tricks lead up to you learning a trick you've dreamed of doing. sorry for the wall of text, just go skate and keep an open mind!

What the other dude says is all correct. You can progress by buidling on what you've got. For example, if you can do a fakie 180 kickturn, you can do a backside 180 powerslide. If you can do that you can learn to go up a flat bank fakie, 180 powerslide at the top, then come down fakie. If you can do that you can do a tailstall revert on a quarterpipe. If you can do that you can do a fakie smithstall revert. If you can do that you can do a fakie smithgrind revert. If you can do that you can do a frontside smith revert, which is a really fucking dope trick. TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!

Cameron Haynes Go out everyday(don’t ever destroy this routine) and you will find a lot of motivations. Also spend more time alone skating to focus on your shit, when I skate with my friends often, we just fuck around a lot and barely learn anything, I learned most of my fundamentals way faster and cleaner when I’m in the zone by myself. Basically I found out I wasn’t really landing any good shit back then because I didn’t really go out to ‘learn’ skateboarding, me and my friends just kind of emulated shit that were way beyond our skill sets and when we didn’t land it, we just kinda gave up. But now, looking at it with a different mindset, trick ideas and inspirations are flooding in constantly, just the past few weeks I landed a bs and fs 5050 on a high ledge, learned to pop my 180s, got decent half cab flips on lock and now I’m learning frontside airs and regular 180 kickflips. So yeah, before you think about landing anything, you got to change your mindset before you go out and skate. Go out and actually learn shit by yourself BEFORE you fuck around with your friends, tbh it’s not really even that fun skating with friends when you can barely do anything.

I had a mental block when I was scared of falling. Now if I see something I attempt it or try. If my fear eats me up then I’ll come back later on a good day because their are some days I’m more comfortable on my board than others,

Been skating most my life and Ive hit the same plateaus and mental blocks before. The city I live in just built a $100,000 concrete park from locally raised donations 250ft from my house right across the street. I've been getting back into riding again got a new board and everything. I have now constantly been learning new vert amd transition tricks after being a street skater my whole life. Landing monster 360 flips over the A frame they put in starting to get my frontside airs after just a day of practicing. I tell you what. It feels god damn amazing. They only way to progress as a skater and evolve/learn new tricks is honestly just to go for it. Commit. Balls to the walls. Eat the concrete a few times get your bruises and lumps and just get back up and try it again. Keep trying. Gnarlier and gnarlier. Always think bigger faster and cleaner. I am no pro by any means. No nyjah huston been its feels great to cruise up the 12 ft vert wall and be able to rock and roll after never skating vert at all.

@thed.z.a.46584 жыл бұрын
I just figured out the secret to this trick yesterday night at the Adult night session and the trick to the trick is to pop with almost no pressure with the speed of if you were gonna do a smith or front side grind. Iv been trying to figure out why Grtayson n GT make em look so easy and I think that I got em now. I did four in a row over the coping, the light went bright.

Good question. When someone does a 180, they're rolling away switch. Although I'm physically doing a frontside 180, its not called that on a quarter pipe or halfpipe: I'm not rolling away switch. On transition, these are normally just called frontside ollies. Just another weird part of skateboard trick names.
@JGrocks185 жыл бұрын
Jose Lopez it’s a frontside 180. Otherwise known as a frontside Ollie since it’s in vert. This trick was made in the 80s

No one calls them 180s on transition, just like no one calls a kickturn a 180, even though it is. No one says “Tony Hawk with a nice frontside 180 Indy”. Although it IS a rotation, you go up and come back down regular stance.
