There are a lot of issues with freighters now, so I'd say it's a glitch.

You might want to put outdated in the title. Because this isnt how it works anymore. The best freighter right now, yes there is only a single one at the moment, has a T shaped supercharger layout. It barely gets to 5.800 light years right now. But this is the absolute max right now

As for acquiring Salvage Frigate Modules, you can attack the cargo pods on the freighters themselves without getting a loss of race standing. Destroying the stand-alone cargo pods will always give you a negative on race standing. Also, you can tell what each particular cargo pod contains by getting close and "inspecting" the pod. This way, you can optimize your time while acquiring Salvage Frigate Modules. Of course, if you want to also grab the materials that are in the other cargo pods, that's up to you.

Best way to farm Frigate Salvage modules is to enter an uninhabited star system (I did this in a system with no space station). Then, go planet side and get a 2-3 star sentinel level. Hop in your ship, go to space. When you get the wanted level to 5 in space, they'll send a freighter after you. You can destroy the 4 cargo pods on it, boost away until you get the "hostile sub space scan" to come up again, and repeat when the new freighter pops up. Its still a random chance to get the item, but you get NO penalty to your reputation.

After raiding about 10 sentinel freighters(maybe more) I got 5 frigate salvage. RNG is a B but this is by far the easiest method I’ve found of farming frigate salvage.

Honestly the rep system is a joke, I've raided over a dozen ships for supplies and just farmed the sentinel frigates as a nice side objective. Space fights are too easy, lol

Great video, thanks! FYI, you can get one free emergency broadcast receiver from Helios in the Nexus each week. Also, if you only shoot the freighter cargo pods (not the frigates or smaller cargo ships), you won't take a faction standing hit. Placing your ship's target reticle (cursor) on each cargo pod will tell you what it contains allowing you to scope out where the frigate modules are located (If the cargo pod just says "cargo pod", it has nanites inside it). Each freighter group that spawns in will typically have 2-4 frigate modules (in the freighters). Once I have scoped out where all the frigate modules are, I hit just those ignoring the sentinels and then jet away. : )

Thanks for the support! The placement matters in terms of having the upgrade modules touch the correct sides of the tech for best adjacency bonusses (at least according to my testing), if tech a and tech b have no adjacency bonus you can of course place them wherever you like.

put the broadcast receiver in your personal refiner before you land on the derelict freighter & you can use it as many times as you want. i personally dismiss frigates when they're damaged, i hate repairing them

Door, very well explained. For the measly loss of 100ly range you can recover two slots by scrapping the red/green enabling drive modules as the Indium upgrade allows access to all star class types the same as your Starship does. Hello Games also only had the Indium/blue one in the last Expedition Freighter as an example which gave access to red/green/blue systems. Keep up the great work!

Yes you indeed can! Highest tier items also work for lower tiers in most cases (just like the Atlas Pass). But indeed you will band in some lightyears + adjacency bonus.

As a Mass Effect fan since the first game's original announcement and launch, it's a damn shame that I JUST found out about the SR-1 being a fleet ship while watching this video just to Google the "how to" and discover that it was a surprise bonus that players only had two weeks to obtain. Yeah if you increase the slots you can do so beyond the highlighted area (to a degree). Same goes for starships!

I don't wanna mention it because I might jinx it. But what about the anomaly portable refiner for the backpack? Talking about storing the beacon to use over and over again. Does it still work? Haven't tried it yet but hoping they didn't patch it because don't wanna turn off the buy feature in settings to get everything for free. Maybe later in the game when boredom and laziness set in.

Maybe they changed how this works? The best I get with this setup is 4926 range and 4.0 efficiency. I'm down like 1500 range and half your efficiency. :(

I cannot get these freighters battles to start. I know i've played way over 3 hours the game has been on for like 6-7 hours now today i've been warping back and forth between 2 3 star places and i've done way more then 5 times and i havent seen a freighter needing rescuing. This is by far the most frustrated i've been with this game. I see all these videos showing it making it look so easy and ive been trying for a few days now to get one to spawn. Idk whats up with my game and why it isn't doing what all these videos show =(

Did they reduce the max Freighter hyperdrive range since? Mine is capped at 4.9k with all upgrades shown here and 2x 3 hyperdrive modules in tech and inventory

I had 3 s class upgrade mods in tech and 3 in general for everything - which was very OP and made fleet expeditions far too easy, in fact it made them very boring; I only had to add one frigate(any frigate) to an expedition and I was already on 5*. Dropped it now to 2 of each in tech and none in general (except hyperdrive, gotta have my 6k jump). Still pretty OP with just 2.

Awesome guide. Well explained. Got my sub! I would just throw for newer players also you can land on your frigates when they aren't on missions also for free materials, units, and a random planetary scan. And you can research and install the exocraft terminal so you can call it in when the freighter is in the system instead of building a exocraft spawn.

Has anyone figured out what part of the NPC freighters carry salvaged freighter modules? I’ve been going off after crashed “emergency beacon“ freighters on the planets but they are not giving out freighter upgrade related items. If anything, the crashed freighters will give 1-2 ship slot or multi tool expansion slot upgrades.

If you are still looking, use the salvage dealer at any space station and select buy coordinates. Get a fair number of the scanners then find a system that has a s class derelict. From there it's just a matter of finding each type of upgrade.

Amazing guide, thanks ! But I think I might have a bug of sort. I tried it multiple times in a row (20 to be exact), and I always get one of four upgrades : hyperdrive, beacon, combat unit and mining unit. Never once did I get a fuel unit, an exploration unit or a trade unit. Has anyone faced this problem, or am I just very unlucky ?

If you use the console option to reset the freighter, does it go back to the state it was in when you found it, or become totally empty? Mine came with a bunch of rooms that I had to delete. Also, do you get the materials back? That's a lot of silver and tritium to lose if not.

@2:10 I don't think that's a countdown. I think that's a complete total tally. "Number of Expeditions" doesn't award XP. Successful encounters do. So Successful Encounters - Times damaged (XP is not awarded on encounters they were damaged) is the amount of XP that has gone into levelling them up. It's also why, with only 5 missions per day that the longer expeditions are more rewarding.
