So why can't a manufacturer make a right and left directional fuse tap?

I’m installing a dash cam in my 2023 Silverado and will be using the micro 3 fuse tap. On the passenger fuse box the only fuse that’s not constant is F26. That fuse is a 10 amp. My dash cam came with a 15 amp fuse. Would it be safe to have a 15 amp added to the existing 10 amp fuse? Please advise asap 🙏

I’d try it with the 10 for now. Have a spare 10 just in case.

@@1349Marine sorry for the delay. Replying to questions is something I like to do, but they pile up fast! I figured the 10 would be okay. Both devices on the circuit would have to draw peak current at the same time for it to exceed (maybe) the 10amp limit.

I have two 15A blower motor fuses in my AC unit. One of the fuse slots is damaged, so I was wondering if I could use a fuse tap on a functioning 15A slot and add another 15A fuse to it to supply power to the other blower motor

Hello.. thank you for this video and i would like to ask pleas which cable i use for my dash cam on F26 fuse (ACC) or (battery) because i have 2 wires come with it and i will love to activate the parking mode.. can u please help me to find which one to go to which fuse number? 🙏

This is not an easy question to answer. Unless you have the exact same fuse panel as me, you might have to get out a test light or voltage tester and try to determine which fuses are HOT or LIVE when the ignition is off. If you find one, this is a good candidate for your power wire (or you can run it to the battery + directly). F26 for me is a switched circuit that is only on with the ignition, so this is a good choice for my (ACC) connection.

​@@Donslife does your "not used" slot have a contact? My refreshed Sierra's empty slot is empty, and there is no metal contact for those in the right block. The left fuse block has the contact point for those empties, but all are hot, and no ACC.

Hey Dan, could you use a fuse tap link on the puddle lights? I watched your video on the GMC logo projected by the puddle lights. I’m wanting to see if there is a way to keep them running while the truck is moving. I did call boost auto on your recommendation and they said they’re mod only keeps the spotlights running while the truck is in motion and not the puddle lights Maybe you can do a video on a fuse to keep the puddle lights running with the logo projected on the road. The truck is moving for us.

Ran into this issue today when installing my dash cam in my 2024 Silverado 2500HD. It seems like there are fewer and fewer IGN/switched sources when compared to the GMT900 body trucks and SUV's. I had to abandon the installation for today and order the micro3 tap to go into F26 (USB). Thanks for the tip on shaving it down.

You don’t until you test it for any error messages. A GM tech could probably figure out which are and aren’t, but that wasn’t my situation

How did you go through the firewall? Did you have to poke/cut a hole?

There is usually a grommet or two provided by the manufacturer for passing wires through the firewall. On these trucks they look like a 3” diameter rubber cone that you need to cut the tip off of, or slice it. I depends on how thick the wire is. If you watch some of my videos for my upfitter switches or Auxbeam switch, I show the spots.

@@Donslife Thanks! I have a 2023 Canyon and I don't think it has any of those extra grommets. I'm considering poking a hole through the passenger grommet that all the factory wiring goes through. Have you ever done that? Recommend or not? BTW I got the Freedom Blade based on your review; can't wait to get it fully installed!

Unfortunately, on motorcycles, most fuse boxes/covers are so small you can't always get the cover back on. Other than that, taps are great.

After watching fast and the furious 1 I knew I had to install a underglow kit asap and I did but I wired it straight to the battery and it eventually fried the whole thing and killed my battery every week before it totally cooked itself. I’m going to try it again with the tap and everyone is going to think it’s Paul walker driving around back from the dead to film the fast and furious 19

Thanks Don for sharing this.... I have a 2024 GMC 2500HD Sierra Denali Ultimate. As you know, some things are not so ultimate in these newer trucks. My case is the lack of a simple 12v cigarette type socket. Your video is the closest direction I could find to get this accomplished. I need a simple 3amp fused connection for my Zumo XT GPS. It does have an internal inline trip type fuse/breaker but, I would still like a seperate inline fused connection such as coming off the fuse panel. I want a constant hot connection instead of switched power. I'm thinking of installing a a simple SAE connector or similar under my dash to plug into instead of a bulky 12v socket. Now, I'm trying to find out if there is an empty unused accessory spot within my fuse panel. If not, do you have any suggestions to throw at me for a fuse-tap to SAE connector or similar?
