How to Gain Additional Points on The Points Test

The more points you have, the higher your chance you have of receiving an invitation for General Skilled Migration. General Skilled Migration Visas include - The Skilled Independent - subclass 189, Skilled Nominated - subclass 190 or Skilled Work Regional - subclass 491.
With the new visa changes on the 16th Nov 2019, there are even more ways to gain points.

Some ways to gain extra points from the 16th of November include:
• Relationship Status
o Single - 10 points
o You have a skilled partner. This means that your partner is under 45 years of age, obtains a positive skill assessment in a job on the same shortage list as you and has Competent English - 10 points
o Your partner who can demonstrate Competent English. The partner can be over 45 years of age - 5 points
• Get Sponsored by a State or Territory for State Nomination or Regional Nomination
o 15 points for regional Nom and 5 points for state Nom.
Studying in Aus:
• 5 points if you study in Aus
o You may receive an additional 5 points by completing a Degree, Diploma or Trade Qualification in a courses/courses that were completed in:
• Z
o at least 2 years of academic study in Australia
o You must have completed your study in Australia, in a total of no less than 16 calendar month
• Study in a Regional Area
o If you study in a regional area you may receive an additional year on your graduate work visa - 5 points
• Work Experience in Aus:
o If you work on the graduate visa for 1 year inside Aus, you may receive an additional 5 points.
• English test
• Accredited accredited translator and interpreter program
o Applicants may receive 5 additional points if they are an accredited translator and interpreter. You must become accredited as a para-professional interpreter or translator (level 2) by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters - Arabic, Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Punjabi, Spanish, Sinhalese & Tamil
• A professional year is available an internship based learning program in which applicants are placed at a company. Professional Year programs are available to graduates in the engineering, accounting and computing field - 5 points
• 10 points for Masters or PhD level Australian qualification in specific areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - STEM). This change is driven by the importance of STEM skills to Australia’s ongoing innovation and economic success.

Hi there, was planning to go to Australia..so recently about 491 regional skilled Visa I already have 70 points excluding Ielts.so can I apply for 491 or is it mandatory to write Ielts??

If you do not have a passport from a native English speaking country, you would usually need IELTS or another English test for the visa.

You would only receive state nomination (5 points) or regional nomination (15 points)

Hi Sir, I completed my diploma in Civil Engineering in 2009 and soon after I started work, I am working till today having About 10 years experience in relevant job (civil engineer.) Meantime, I did study Bachelor degree (part time) in Civil Engineering and it was awarded on 2013. Now, Engineers Australia didn’t consider my experience before bachelors degree despite I have relevant Work experience. Can I continue to claim experience before my degree awarded? I have income tax details and Provident Fund to support experiences in the relevant field before degree . Will be helpful if you could advise. Thank you!
