I'm a personal trainer and registered nurse. This man opened my eyes to a lot of things. You have to listen to your body and focus. Then you learn yourself. 1. You dont need to lose fat. Just gain clean muscle mass. 2. Push even harder. Push beyond your limits. 3. Overtraining brings more gains than not training hard at all. 4. Change reps and sets. Try new workout plans.

*One of the best videos on this topic. I don't use reps or sets anymore. I don't start counting until I start feeling the burn and want to quit. Reps and sets puts limits on everything. You know, this is probably the most helpful and encouraging video I've seen yet. Ryan thank you. I lifted all through high school using all the wrong form and theory because thats what the coaches required. I gave up shortly after hs because of lack of success (I gained strength but not as I should have). I returned to lifting occasionally for a month or two and always gave up. I hit 296 pounds of lardass this past March at 43 years old and a father of 4. I decided that if I were going to survive my forties, I had to be something other than a fatass. The past 5 months I've utterly changed my eating habits and did a lot of cardio, then last month returned to the gym After 4 weeks lifting again, I've learned more about how to grow than I ever learned in my hs days I haven't grown any noticeable muscle mass (well, it's noticeable to me) but I definitely feel the strength returning and feel better than I have in years. I've dropped 30 of the 120lbs of fat that I need to drop, and my arms/legs have held lean muscle mass. Largely, I have you to thank Ryan, for your videos.

This is sooo truth. Body actually responds slower when overtraining. As he said it i did notice the same like muscle growth like 10 days after not training at all. But resting and eating well. Maybe unbelivable to some but soo truth. And yes consistancy prevails. Even if you are unable to train for some time do not give up. There is muscle memory, muscle mind connection, neuro pathways already built while you were training. Just get back whenever and you will have faster progress than someone training for the first time in life. I am soon 39, been on and off My hole life as i am father of 2 so i know that it is so. 48-72 hours for muscles to repair, but that depends on how much sleep you get and various other things that may help or hinder recovery. Good Video. I like it. I wanted to add. There are still people who don't realize they are in overtraining. For me overtraining was a normal situation because i always thought i have to train harder, not realizing i wasn't eating (clean food) enough. But at that time there was no internet, not many good books or else here in Germany to get knowledge from. I came to a point where i had several muscle tears on my belly, chest and bizeps. I used to squat so many reps in one training I couldnt walk the 32 stairs from the basement for one hour. :D :D :D But all that was a psychic thing for me. I tried to hurt my self without realizing I wanted to. It is like you said. I learned to train hard and after finding out the proper amount of sets and reps and proper eating I had great results. I saw other guys training for 5 years without any progress because of their wimp training. And I realised the same thing you said in another video. Light weights worked for me so damned good. Love your channel. Greetings from Germany.

if this guy wasn't in the Navy he would have been the most popular guy there. Never heard anyone as snarky and the sharpest one liners! Wow! They never stop! It's awesome

Again you nailed it. You also touched on the subject of muscle confusion. Switching up the routine to raise that level of intensity. Again awesome video!

5 sets 15 reps per exercise, sometimes you'll fail on them reps though that's me. But some days I'll up them reps, or include drop sets cluster sets etc, it's never really a set number.

This is what I've just started doing with one of Ryan's arm workouts. For the first time ever my biceps feel like something is eating at the fibres.

Amazing channel! You're the only gym coach on YT that can actually make me laugh! No 'science says' BS, just straight to the point hardcore facts injected directly into my muscle fibres in less than a few minutes. Keep it up!

I’m a 58 Army Vet. Now doing full body m-w-f and cardio tues-thurs. heavy mon and fri with drop sets (bench, squats, deadlifts, rows, overhead press, close grip.bench, close grip pushups, barbell curls and incline curls . Light on wed but 20-25 reps . People say I look mid 30s. At approx 10% body fat trying for 8. And then plan is to maintain as I age further while changing workout plan - push, pull, legs or mike o’hearn weekly workout. One body part mon - fri. Weekend of rest does me wonders. Feel fully energetic on Monday’s so I tear it up on Monday. Youngsters can’t keep up when they come to my home gym. That’s the military in me. Just 2 more, you can do anything for just 60 seconds. It’s a mindset - strong mind so it doesn’t matter.
