Warning to anyone intending to play with USBC to HDMI: These adaptors increase latency of the monitor output drastically! An issue no one ever really talks about. I tried various USBC -> HDMI on ASUS FA506 (2021) laptop. At 4K60, the latency in games went from 20 ms to +60ms, making games entirely unplayable. USBC to Displayport might be better, because USBC natively outputs Displayport, hence no conversion required.
@ElectronicsComputers3 жыл бұрын
USB-C port natively supports a whole bunch of signals including HDMI, VGA, Displayport, digital audio etc. Some people buy not cables that simply transfer native signal but active adapters in order to get 4K at 60Hz when their CPUs/GPUs only support 4K at 30Hz and of course in that case there will be some latency issues. But if your hardware supports 4K@60HZ and you bought a proper cable (the links in the description) there won't be any problems.
@SensitizedX3 жыл бұрын
@@ElectronicsComputers Hey, thanks for your response! I actually tested seemingly active "adapters", like Lenovo USBC to HDMI. These required an additional HDMI cable to be plugged in. My GPU is RTX3070 Mobile with 4K60 support. So your recommendation is for me to buy a passive USBC to HDMI cable, and then there wont be any added latency? If so, that would really help me a lot.
@SensitizedX3 жыл бұрын
@@ElectronicsComputers I have just tested a USBC to HDMI cable (no adaptor involved, passive) and it has the same issues. At 3840x2160, the input latency goes through the roof. I can not use USBC to HDMI in any way to play games at 4K. Latency with HDMI is 20 miliseconds, and with USBC to HDMI is 60 miliseconds.

Hello :) Thank you for the video explanation (2+ years later) and very comprehensive replies to comments. I was scrolling through the comments to see if someone already posted the same question. However, I still have a slight doubt whether or not the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics card can run the 4k at 60hz My Lenovo ThinkPad L590 (20q700aqcx) has Intel i5 8265u processor, Intel UHD 620 graphics card, 16gb of RAM and 512gb SSD. The laptop has only 1xHDMI 1.4 meaning it's limited to 4k 30hz. Manufacturer says that 2x USB-C ports are: -1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort™1.2) -1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.2)* *Depending on many factors, actual data transfer speed may be lower than theoretical speed'' and they claim on paper that it can run the 4k at 60hz. Could it still be possible to get the 4k 60hz from that Intel UHD 620 using a USB-C>HDMI2.0 cable converter? I will be able to test this live in 3-4 weeks. Thanks in advance for the response and happy New year. :)
@ElectronicsComputers2 жыл бұрын
Your laptop 100% supports 4k at 60Hz via Displayport. If your monitor has only HDMI port then it's only possible by using an active converter. You need a Qgeem USB-C to HDMi cable in aluminum case. The links in the description. I've tested that cable on some old laptops and it worked perfectly. But again the best solution is a monitor that has USB-C or Displayport input.

It doesn’t matter whether a USB-C port supports Thunderbolt or not. Simply having a USB-C port doesn’t guarantee it supports Alt Mode for video and audio transmission. Many USB-C ports, especially on budget laptops, are limited to basic data transfer. According to HP’s website, there’s no mention of DisplayPort Alt Mode support for the model you specified. How about if I want to use the cable the other way around. My second desktop has a dedicated graphic card, GTX 1050ti with Displayport and I have a new 4K monitor, 32 inch Gigabyte M32U that has a DP USB-C as well as one DP 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1. This monitor has a KVM function that I would like to use with the GTX 1050ti. But for the KVM to work, the source of my second PC needs to be DP USB-C Alternate mode. Will one of these cables work? Or, what cable do I need to buy to make it work? Thanks in advance!

I'm afraid that if you want the full functionality and features that USB-C provides, you need a USB-C connection on both ends and a USB cable that supports those features. I've seen cables on Amazon advertised as bidirectional, which we actually bought for our repair shop to test some devices, but none of them worked in bidirectional mode as advertised.

@@ElectronicsComputers Just an update post in case anyone sees your video and needs help. Well, the bi-directional, ie USB-C on one end to Displayport on the other end didn't work as I wanted to. I got video, but the KVM didn't function at all, it wouldn't recognize the mouse and keyboard on the second PC. Again, I had to order another cable from Amazon, a straight USB C to USB C 3.1 Gen 2 Cable-6.6FT-20Gbps Data Transfer cable since Gigabyte didn't include one with the monitor.. ... So far the KVM switch now works with this setup. Note, the mouse and keyboard are connected to the USB 3.1 ports of the monitor...There are 3 of them. Here is how I set it up: I plugged the USB C to USB C cable to PC#1 which did have a USB C input on the back of the MB to the USB C on the back of the monitor. This setup worked perfectly for the mouse and keyboard only, since I don't have video on a old first gen Ryzen 7 AMD processor I knew it wouldn't work for video. However video did work with when plugged to a HDMI on the GTX 1050ti graphics card and then to monitor for video. Mouse/keyboard working. Now PC #2 is plugged into the Displayport of the monitor coming out from DP source of the RTX 4090 with a typical USB3.1 B-Type cable coming from the monitor to PC 3.1 USB on MB port for mouse and keyboard functions. KMV now works as intended and can switch between two PC's I hope this helps anyone with the same situation as mine.

Technically, it's possible to transmit video signal from a laptop which has Displayport to a monitor with HDMI port but not vise versa.You'll need some sort of adapter to do that. But you shouldn't use those adapters to convert DisplayPort to HDMI. DisplayPort natively outputs in a LVDS signal type that is not compatible with HDMI (HDMI uses TMDS). It does have a dual-mode version that will support TMDS in compatibility mode. It will never work reliably. Just use HDMI to HDMI connection.

Not all USB-C ports are capable of delivering video signals. Check the specs of your laptop or tell me its model I'll check the specs.

What a good video! If I have a somewhat old laptop with a usb-c port that supports display port 1.2, and I connect it to an adapter or display port interface to support 1.4, would there be a problem? loss of image quality, etc? I have read that the fewer adapters, the better, I hope you can answer me, Greetings!

It will work perfectly well and you monitors Displayport 1.4 will work as 1.2 version. The link for USB-C to Displayport in the description.

Hello sir. Thank you so much. You've earned a subscriber. I just have one question for someone who might have some knowledge in this area. i have a g-sync compatible monitor (not a g-sync monitor) which is 144hz. The problem is that g-sync does not work over the hdmi connection. It works only through display port. My asus scar iii does have a type c display port.Before i invest in this i need to be sure that with this i can turn on g-sync. Thank you so much!!

Your laptop has Displayport 1.4 version which supports 1080p at 144Hz and 2K at 120Hz (you get 120Hz only if your monitor also has Displayport 1.4 if it has Displayport 1.2 then you get 4K at 60Hz) You can use the same aluminum USB-C to Displayport cable that I used in the video.

Hi , I have a RTX 2080 on my desktop and a LG C1, I need HDMI 2.1 in newer cards for 4k 120hz Can I use a high quality usb c to hdmi converter and use a hdmi 2.1 cable and get 4k 120hz with gsync enabled on my 2080? Really need Gsync and can't find an answer anywhere Thanks !

Gsync is not gonna work with converters and you'll never achieve the same performance with any adapter as you would with the direct connection via Displayport or HDMI cable. USB-C to HDMI adapters have active components inside and they just may fake the resolution and FPS. This is one of the best adapters at the moment: amzn.to/3ELEnvk
