Nah man, i went to the city today to ask him all this myself in person since it’s my first time, and all they do is give you paperwork and tell you to go online!

That sucks! Sorry for giving out the wrong info. All jurisdictions are different

@@buildingcodetips well I attribute it to that they get tired of doing their jobs. They may be used to the ins-and-outs of everything but they don't know how to pass that knowledge down to a newber like me.

The town we are trying to do egress windows in is pretty vague on their permit. Just says “plans” and has all sorts of things that do not seem to pertain to the project. Sewer size, water line size, framing plans etc. They also are not much help when you ask
@buildingcodetips7 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear about the struggles. That does sound excessive for an egress window. Are you allowed to go down to the building department and get an over the counter review and approval by doing a quick sketch of the window location and planned framing? I know that works in our area for something small
@bojack2740Ай бұрын
Man, I'm having the same exact problem.. I've made several calls, exchanged lots of emails and the lady said they just "need the plans". How do I get them?

@@bojack2740 I ended up sending some I drew up in and did not hear back from them for months. Ended up having someone else do it because my city wouldn’t respond

I am going to buy a used shed and want to get it permitted. How lond does it take for a permit? shed is a 10 x 20. As an inspector to they make you fix the shed if it has a broken door?
@buildingcodetips11 ай бұрын
Definitely check with your local building department as a permit might not be required since its an accessory structure not over 200sf. Ideally, i always recommend keeping it 5ft off your property line. Shouldn’t be any issue with the door on the building code side of things. If you live in an HOA they might have issue with the appearance if visible from the street. Good luck!!

I want to make a heated shed 20 by 10 , do you know what will be the requirements
@buildingcodetips Жыл бұрын
Technically per the International residential code an accessory structure (shed) that doesn't exceed 200sf does not require a permit. Your area may have more strict requirements but if its a shed that's 200sf or less then you should be fine to proceed. My suggestion would be to stay 5ft off your property lines and permit any electrical work you might do for heat, power, lights, etc...A quick call down to your local building department to confirm might be worth it as well.

I currently live in Alberta and trying to buy raw land back in my home province of ns. Lawyer told me to see if I can get a driveway permit before we proceed. I called the department of transportation got an application but I don’t want a permit yet as I am 5000km away and this is going to be a couple year pro just for myself. How can I get someone just to tell me if I can get a driveway put in without getting a permit that I won’t be able to work on at their permitted time. I wasn’t planning on driveway for a while
@buildingcodetips9 ай бұрын
This sounds like it could be a fun project some day! Does the application have a contact number or email? I would probably try to get a hold of someone at the department of transportation and ask the question. Preferably, getting something in writing via email or a code reference to guarantee access. My understanding, at least in the states is that land must have access in and out. This may mean through an easement on another persons property or direct access if it borders a roadway. Have you seen the title report? It might have some information on easement and access.
@tyleroliver55719 ай бұрын
@@buildingcodetips 8.23 acres raw land on a lake and in between 2 huge lakes 5-10 minutes north and south of it. I’ve just been emailed all the codes and seems I have 385’ of road access I can pick from to put a driveway and found out the power lines are on the opposite side of the street from the property. I guess this will make the permits a lot easier for me to get them down the road. The wait on getting the exact information you need from them seems to be the worst part.

@@tyleroliver5571 That's for sure. Figuring out who to talk too and actually getting a hold of them can be quite the challenge sometimes. Glad to hear you are getting the info you need!
