Tired of someone leaving the gate open? This is one of my favorite solutions to that problem. The BadAss Self-Closing Hinge!

I've done self closing gates for years with standard hinges by offsetting the bottom hinge an inch to the opening side. No welding, no springs, no need to buy yee-haw, woop-de-doo self closing hinges. I guess I been doing it wrong these 40 years...

The offset hinge works well but offends my aesthetic sensibilities. I really like the big bulky spring-loaded hinges with the tiny set screws - that way you can open the gate without it screeching and alerting the cows.

It could work on a double gate, although one gate would still have to have a drop rod.

A valid question. You'd have to prop it open on your way through. If you usually drive through your gates by yourself it might not be the best fit.
