My favorite tip was hanging the Stinger on my pants pocket! I was constantly setting it on the ground and then picking it up. For some odd reason that never occurred to me. I might even incorporate a small utility or hammer pouch to hang the Stinger when I need hands-free to adjust a magnet or something..

Another thing to consider when hanging gates is of the gate is used while there is snow on the ground some guys around here like there gates hung alittle high so they can open freely with snow on the ground

Damn! Your vertices look like my flat positions. Freakin awesome! I can occasionally do a vertical and it turn out like that. But it ain’t every time for sure. To get consistent verticals that look like that takes a lot of time burning rods. I weld as a side business on the weekends, and not every weekend so I may never get there. It’s nice to see an example to strive for though. I think one reason I like your videos so much is that I can tell you genuinely love welding where as many people do it out of necessity. You have a way of igniting that passion in someone wanting to learn the trade.

Hey Bub… I’m new to your channel. You do a great job with everything from quality of work to explaining the process at hand. I’m 44yrs welder by trade. Most of all my work had been structural/Millwright shutdown work. I’m curious if you would recommend someone such as myself to jump into working solely for myself. “Into days economic status” I have no interest in outages/shutdown work. I’m more interested in gates,Equipment etc….. any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
@botsbass8422 жыл бұрын
Know why i like aross videos? You work a lot like i do and it makes me think my ball and chain job might not have me by the balls forever. You ought to make it so that piece of pipe bolts up to your trailer so you can leave it leaning on the side of the barn until you need to haul another gate.
@obfuscated30902 жыл бұрын
If you make a mast (whatever style ya like) to hold signal lights on the trailer where they'll be visible (see DOT regs etc) with a load that can be seen from behind you're legal and safer in poor visibility. LED worklights are cheap these days and also benefit from being raised up.

We have sandy soil down to about 18". Once you get past that, it's extremely hard compacted sand. It's a lot like trying to dig through rock. Would it be sufficient to set a 7' 2 7/8 post three feet in the ground (12" hole 3' deep, post set in concrete) for a 4'x12' gate as long as the posts are braced? I plan on building angled braces with 4 vertical posts and a single horizontal brace between all 4 on each side. The setup will be a lot like the 8" dia entrance you built, but without the high horizontal. Would you use your fence clips to attach goat wire to the braces?

This is great, I love welding but I never get to do enough of it. Im self taught, I'm no expert, I can lay a decent Bead but uphill is always a challenge. I've never used a 7018 rod though as I believe you need a DC capable machine? Anyway, I need lots of practice with uphill welds
