In my school, we take “blurting” very seriously but we actually call it “retrieval practice”. when you write everything down that you know without your notes, essentially you are retrieving the information from your short term memory into your long term memory. it’s a very effective revision strategy and I’m glad you mentioned it. also, thank you so much for the amazing tips! loved the video:)

1. Understand the question+ what it requires of you. 2. Stay away from taught structures such as P.E.E. Let you analysis include lexical fields, symbolic meaning, literal meaning, words + connotations and ALWAYS a language device. 3. Make a unique, out of the box point.

My biggest challenge with English is time. I usually get full marks on the questions I answer but I always run out of time with at least one whole question left unanswered. Tbh idk what to do anymore. My target is a 9 but I don’t see that happening with this obstacle.
@SmileWithSola2 жыл бұрын
As I said in the video, you need to give yourself time restraints. Once you finish this time, finish the sentence and move on. It's better to at least get some marks on a question rather than 0 - that reduces your chances of getting a grade 9 drastically.

Had to split this up into parts: part 1 :) I’m taking RE and I've gotten an 8- or an 8 on every mock and assessment so far. There are certain ways to structure your paragraphs which will ensure you have given enough info to get all the marks. First there is PEPE which is Point - Explain - Point - Explain and it is for the 4 mark question, basically you make a point and then back it up with an explanation, its best to include a religious teaching or an attitude in the explanation as it makes it flow better. And you repeat this once so your answer looks like, Point - Explain - Point - Explain, but make sure the second point is quite different from the first. e.g "Give 2 contrasting Christian viewpoint on abortion" P - [Some Christians would be against abortion because once of the ten commandments is "Do not kill"] E - [As abortion is the termination of the foetus it can be seen as murder and would go against "Do not kill"] P - [Some Christians would be accepting of abortion if the pregnancy endangers the health of the mother] E - [Pregnancy can occasionally lead to the death of the woman, as Christians believe God loves all individuals, abortion may be considered to spare god from the suffering]

this is my strongest subject, for programming you should watch videos on a high level programming laguage, for example "Python tutorial"on youtube is an example, those types of videos are made for people who want jobs in programming so it goes in deeper skill, you are not required t have that kind of knowledge but it made me being able to produce pseudocode so easily, to practice your prgroramming skills use codewars this is the most important one since programming is least about theory

For resources in CS I got you as well, most of this for theory so paper 1: Seneca learning MrBrownCS (KZbin) Craig n Dave A textbook, one i recommend is the CGP one programming: Python tutorial videos on youtube and practice is key to get better at programming so use codewars, or even leetcode (leetcode is designed for people who are going to take interviews in jobs requiring programming, so it has many practical questions)

Hi Sola, do you have any tips for creative writing? Thank you so much this was incredibly helpful!!! x

I really recommend watching Mr Bruff's exemplar essays and looking at how they seamlessly use language devices such as metaphors, similes, etc. Start to implement these into your own writing and give your essays to your teacher for feedback.

Hey Sola, you know how in the video you mentioned about writing a question, and answering it to make your revision session productive, would you advise using your notes to write ✍️ it up, without timed condition and give it to the teacher to mark? Instead of answering the question by memory
@SmileWithSola2 жыл бұрын
I think when learning how to structure your answers initially try with your notes but once you understand how to write a high quality essay then start doing it from memory

so for english literature, say if analysing a quote, should i talk about the adjective or noun or verb etc used? will this gain me marks and improve my analysis?
@SmileWithSola2 жыл бұрын
If it’s relevant to the analysis, yes! If not then not really! There’s no harm in naming the type of word if you are analysing the word in particular.
