I had a couple keys on me for years since I'm alive, but I never asked anybody how they are made or how they are copied. Well, now I know the copy part! It seems so simple but still it needs perfect alignment on the machine and the machine itself has to be exact down to the mm. Interesting topic!

When I was looking for "how to get a key copied"- I was thinking about what paperwork or process you have to go through to get a locksmith to make a copy for you.

For most keys, at least in Texas, there is no paperwork required. Only when you get into restricted keyways is when there's documentation required! Thanks for watching! -Randall

yeah its not like you cant do it yourself given a file and some patience.. keys are not magic really. But now its more and more digital keys, keys with chips and electrical unlocking like qloc

I have an old machine, the cut key looks pretty good but then it won't fit completely in the cylinder and if it fits it won't turn. Success rate is only 50%. I noticed one little tooth on the circular cutter was broken, not sure if that has anything to do with it. Will do alignment next.
