Fugi kit available here- fave.co/1PLXw09
Getting a perfect silicone bead has never been easier thanks to some easy to use silicone tools. These tools allow the silicone to be profiled to an exact shape easily. In this video we look at the fugenboy and also the Fugi kit from Cramer, both of these kits makes applying silicone much easier but the Fugi kit is exceptional at producing professional looking silicone or caulk lines. Brought to you by www.ultimatehan...

Thanks for the video. I have just got a set of the Fugi and will be using it this week on a fully tiled wet room I am working on. For all the comments below, stating that there is to much waste, please understand that this was a demonstration, lot's of silicone was applied just to show how well the tool worked. I have a feeling you will end up wasting less.

Used it today for the first time and I am blown away at the results. I have been trying to perfect this skill for years, my heart would always sink when I would be somewhere that had been professionally tiled. How did they get their silicone bead so perfect, now I know! Thanks for the recommendation and demo. It takes a bit of practise but it is a joy to use.

+Daniel Condurachi You are welcome. Just take your time with it and you should be fine ;-) Once you have applied the silicone it makes it easier to tool it off if you give it a spray using a spray bottle and some water and a little liquid soap, like I did in the decorators caulk video- kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX6xgoiIoMppack Good luck with it ;-)

Absolutely fantastic video! I've siliconed hundreds of times using all kids of sealants, and I've always used tape and my finger. I thought that worked pretty well. But this is the first Time I've seen anyone use these types of tools, I'm definitely going to purchase the fugi kit! Again great at video!

Spectacular demo on the Fugi! When I saw that globby white caulk against the black background, I just KNEW that it was going to male a mess- oozing around the top and bottom of the tool as you dragged it over the bead. I was astonished!!! to see the clean, straight, tight, white strip of caulk that you finished with! Beautiful demo! Thank you. And I had no idea that silicone remover/dissolver even existed! I watched you in the video with the shark tile.

Except that the description which is part of this kit recommends not to spray soapy water. And and from experience I know that the silicone does not stick much to this tool and it works fine without it. The reasoning not to spray is, that you’ll risk that the soapy water gets behind the silicone and that will ruin your seal. What you can do if there’s some corners or edges which are not 100%, is to wet your finger with soapy water and just touch up that spot a bit.

I worked with glass brick and sometimes had to silicone up to 40 mm try doing that and leave a nice straight line vertical and horizontal,I once had to silicone someone else’s disaster on a semi circular wall in one of the hottest days of the year so that as soon as the silicone left the nozzle it began to cure ‘set” the only way I found how to do a correct job was back to the masking tape and a bucket of water and some fairy liquid, fairy was best as it was more concentrated,these tools are good for around baths and sinks with a 5 to 10 mill joint but with larger and rougher surfaces then it’s back to the old builders tricks of the trade and making sure you prepare properly, the old adage 90% preparation 10% perspiration is always on a proper tradesmans mind

ive got the old fugi blue kit and love it. Might have to invest in a set of those new guide ones though as they look quite good. Only issue I find with them is what I call silicone creep. This is where the silicon can creep up the side if there is too much and can creep up grout lines, you can see this in your last demo. Not a huge problem though. Also I cut my tips at right angles, everyone has there own preference though! Great demo.

Looks good, although I find having to dip the tool (whether finger or fugi) in soapy water is still required for hybrid polymers, those things stick to everything. Tend to do a first pass to get things sealed, then go over again with the soapy water tool to smooth it all out. First pass ensures none of the soapy water gets behind the joint.

@ultimatehandyman

Sometimes the angle between the two surfaces is not exactly 90 degrees, this can leave a small gap on one of the surfaces (normally the wall). On such occasions I normally run the tool over twice, one pressing it downwards slightly, the second time keeping it flush to the wall. Thanks for the comment Jo ;-)

I purchased this kit on the strength of KZbin videos. I found it messy and requires a great deal of keeping things clean. On a small bead around a kitchen sink I got fairly good results. Around a shower which required a thicker bead 12mm it was difficult and there was a lot of drag and wastage. I settled for a not so good finish and decided to go over it again with a top layer using the 14mm tool when it was dry. This provided a better finish. The problem is getting the right amount of caulk on the surfaces before tooling it out. With thicker beads it is difficult to judge and difficult to get good edges (and no pockets) without going over it multiple times. I expect more practice would improve things. This is perhaps not the easy to use wonder tool, but with practice could work better. My previous method was two lines of tape framing the bead, apply silicone and smooth out with wet finger which I dip in white spirit to prevent sticking. Then remove tape and apply a light finger on the edges to smooth them out. However, thicker beads are still a problem to get to look good and I had hoped this tool would solve that.

Otherwise would you just do one side at a time after it cures a bit? Thanks again! I'm going to order a fugi right now!

Spiny Norman Yes, just do one edge at a time and let it cure slightly after tooling it before doing the other edge. I have done a full demo of how to replace the silicone around a bath here- kzbin.info/www/bejne/enyppqGLfs1sqMU Thanks for the comment

Hi good vid..but doesn't the instructions of the Fugi tool say you should have the beveled edge facing the line of travel not the back of the tool. It does say this on my set from Unibond.

No, with the Fugi tools the bevel goes to the back. Thanks for the comment 👍

Great video as always and great looking products too. How would you get a neat line behind bath taps that have very little room behind them?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it's harder behind the taps but still possible by using the tool on a slight angle.

What a brilliant video, many thanks for your tips they are very helpful. I have came across a tricky silicone situation with a shower tray. The tiles on the wall beside the shower tray are Ribbed tiles which are slightly rough tiles, the problem I have is when I use the fugi tool it creates a Juddery (shaky) effect as I work along these tiles and leaves the silicone less than perfect which is so annoying. Is there any advice you can give me to improve the finishing if the silicone. Praying you can help. Fingers crossed.

It's a pain when the tiles are textured. I once had something similar, I tooled off the silicone, firstly by pressing the silicone tool against the tiles (but not hard), then made a second pass, pressing down on the tool, that gave me a half decent finish. One time the silicone was curing, so I sprayed it with soapy water and used my finger. Ten years later, it still looks ok 👍

Do you always do it dry, I have never had much success with that unless the two surfaces are perfectly smooth, textured worktops, tiles etc causing a problem. I use a old window cleaner bottle with a mix of water and washing up liquid and lightly spritz it over the joint before using the tool, seems to make things easier.

Yes I always do it dry, unless I am using my finger in which case I normally apply washing up liquid to my finger. If I ever get a difficult to tool bead I'll try spraying it with the diluted washing up liquid and see how that goes. Thanks for the comment

Wet finger or old piece of dowell.... Dont fill the bath with water as this can create a false settle then the silicone can ripple and push out from the gap even when fully cured... Not dried or skin formed but fully cured in 7 days time.. The bath needs to be jacked up using the feet behind the bath panel as not to drop again and create a open gap for silicone to split... Some newer sealants can react with any methelated spirits causing fisheye effects to the finished seal bead... The kits are good for diy jobs or people who dont have experience with sealant or silicone. The wastage using those tools is madness must cost a fortune especially if you use CT1 silicone. After years of mastic jobs and sealing bathrooms/caulking for decoration just patience and a wet finger is the key!!!!

Honestly, the use of the tool looks much faster. What you waste in silicone is more than covered by the cost of time saved.

I know its an old comment... but why would you ruin the mans graft. He's trying to advertise his company and you're basically shitting all over the tool he's trying to sell in order to make his living... People will use other methods if they cannot afford it, but I just feel suggesting that this tool isn't required on his own video just wasn't necessary. It's pretty ignorant in my opinion.

Typical old school laborer can't get with the times. How many sh*tty silicone beads did you lay before you mastered the wet finger technique? How much silicone did you waste from unhappy clients and having to redo your work as you learn? It's DIY because you can do a perfect job from day one. Not everyone has is lucky enough to work on sh*t jobs where they don't get paid enough for anyone to even care about there finish quality.

I really find it hard to do siliconing and get a perfect finish. I've been thinking about your videos and have 2 questions for this one: Wash hand basin, in the bathroom, centre tap with 25mm between back of tap and wall. How do you get a continuous run of neat silicone. I break off and the bead looks awful behind the tap. Corner where tiles are at 90 degrees on each wall. How do you get a complete run of silicone? The plastic additions which glide over tile grouts mean you can't get the bead into the corner. many thanks.

@ultimatehandyman 6 жыл бұрын
I don't worry about a continuous bead of silicone, although it is possible if you get these nozzles- fave.co/2O5PeGr After applying the silicone I always tool it off, but because the tap is in the way I use a piece of plastic cut to the same angle as the fugi/fugenbuoy tools and tape that to a screwdriver. A guy told me that he used to make his own tools using lolly sticks etc. If you want to you can guy these- fave.co/2wXzhuu I'm sure the last time I silicone in the corner I removed the guides, after doing the beads in each direction. It also helps if you do one bead at a time.

Thanks for your demonstration of the Fugi tool, I am going to purchase one immediately. I have been struggling to find a Low Modulus White Silicone to renew the silicone on my shower tray which needs replaced every year as it sp!its in a few places probably due to slight movement. Do you know of any Low Modulus White Silicone that are available in the UK?

No, that's just unnecessary work. As long as you have decent silicone tools such as the Fugi kit you don't need tape. Thanks for the comment

Superb video and thanks very much for sharing the beautiful results that can be obtained using the FUGI. I have one question. I'm about to use some EVO-STIK 007 (for a better Bond of course - Ha! Ha! Ha!) adhesive/sealant, but they tell me it contains no silicone (but MS-Polymer instead, where presumably any silicone has been modified). Your video shows how easy it is to clean the FUGI after use when using silicone. Would it be just as easy to clean using the 007 or would the fact that it is also an adhesive make it harder to clean. Indeed have you yourselves even used the FUGI with 007? Many thanks.

I'm not sure, as I have only ever used the Fugi tools with silicone/bathroom sealants. You could always test it somewhere, before you try it in situation. Thanks for the comment

could this work well for caulking around toilets and such? In the plumbing field
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman Жыл бұрын
These can be used in some instances, but often toilet pans are not square to the floor, so you don’t get a 90-degree angle between the toilet and the floor. Sometimes it’s better to make a siliconing tool yourself, by cutting up an old plastic soup lid or similar. I did buy a cheap set of siliconing tools and they were not 90 degree angles and are really useful for toilets etc. 👍

Ultimate handyman! I keep getting black moulds on the shower cubicle silicone. Any tips on how to avoid the moulds occurring in future application please. Cheers
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 9 жыл бұрын
Really the silicone needs to be anti-mould in the first place or else it will keep coming back. There are several good silicone's available that have anti-mould chemicals in them, many of these have 10 year guarantees etc. such as Everbuild's forever white or Dow corning's Sanitary silicone. You might be able to stop the mould from reoccurring by cleaning it off with a proprietary mould remover like the one used in this video- kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4fLZWaKoZqljac
