I've been getting my hair styled like this for years and have never known what to say to a barber to get the look I wanted. Now I can FINALLY get the haircut I've been looking for rather than settling for something close.

it depends on the type of hair and the shape of your head to know for sure what type of hair style would be a good fit for you, the individual must find his own style. no video can truly show you a gold standard of a hair style for all head & hair types

I usually have a picture prepared on my phone of what I want the finished product to look like when I head to the barber, that way there's very little miscommunication possible and all he needs is a glance. The picture is either of myself with my hair cut in a fashion that worked well for me, or a picture from Google Images of a haircut on a model or celebrity with similar facial features and shape to my own.

Brett, You can rock the full mustache like it's your job, but not all guys can. Personally I have the full beard with a separated handlebar stache which gets a lot of accolades.So, have you guys considered a video on mustaches & beards and how your face shape, beard density / coloration and profession plays into your best look with facial hair? I'd look forward to that!

Or if words fail you when talking to a barber/hair stylist, I've found that showing them a picture of the style I want drastically improves results and leaves me with the proper haircut I'm looking for. Barbers and hair stylists are usually very good at emulating styles that they see in pictures (which is why they have all those style books lying around).

Grow one for Movember. Your cover is that it's for a good cause. That's how you get the mustache. Once Movember is over, don't shave it off. She'll get used to it.
@mattyjee9 жыл бұрын
Art of Manliness I tried that once. She never got used to it. I've got a massive beard now and will shave down to a mustache and just see if she ever grows to love it. The problem is that she says I look too much like my father... Pretty hard to avoid that.
@One_Bar9 жыл бұрын
Matt Greff Real easy. Start complaining when she cuts her hair. If she doesn't like it, then graciously point out that she can't complain about your mustache. Course then you get the weirdness that ensues. Mine still good naturedly complains once in a while, but then I shave prior to NSN and she REALLY complains about THAT and says how much she misses the beard. And yes, I shave once a year, period.

My hair's thicker, lol. But I'm currently rocking the long curly pony tail and beard. I had a friend tell me I looked a lot like John Snow from game of thrones, and she was liking it, so yeah, that's the great thing about being a man, you can own all sorts of different hair styles and have them be manly. I've had high and tights, military style mohawks, side parts, crew cuts, buzz cuts, an AMAZING afro, and just about everything in between. I haven't had my hair cut in 3 years now, I don't know how much longer I'll keep it, no plans to change anytime soon, but my only advice would be to just own your hair. The one thing that doesn't work for me is the disheveled look you had at the start of the video like you just woke up after a long night, lol.

Really like your videos, podcasts, and site! I liked the video about how you can have different outfits with minimal clothes. Though I do have a question, I have straight and fine hair (think of David Beckham), any tips from your barbers for a good hair style? I generally go with a four on the side, with a trim on the top to sort of have a side part style, and tapered at the back. But I was wondering if anyone could give me hints of styles I could try?

Art of Manliness Thank you Brett for your reply and your always great work. It appears fraternal organizations are clearly making slow but steady comeback. Last week, while socializing with a client, the conversation surprisingly veered towards fraternal organizations, not only Freemasonry, but also The Turtles, the Elks, the Oddfellows and The Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus! Clearly it took a turn I had not anticipated. It appears most 30 somethings are looking for a sense of purpose, belonging but also history, legacy and mystery. I and the rest of your followers are eagerly looking forward to your next piece on this subject. Kindest Regards,

I have thick hair - I think the good thing is that we can have our hair thinned out at the barbershop to make it more manageable. We probably need to get our hair cut more often than people with thinner hair, but it's a small price to pay I think, as most people would agree that thick hair on a guy is generally more attractive.

Is this hair cut possible with thin haired men? As in the hair its self is thin and wispy rather than thick? Or will you have to add a pound of pomade to get it to look right?
