This is so freaky!! I bought an 80's Hot Wheels Corvette to restore a couple weeks ago, and only afterwards found the video of BaremetalHW restoring one almost exactly like it - and I was even planning to paint it the same color! And I just bought a Hot Wheels DeLorean to redo in a stainless steel finish - and found this video hours later!!

I know this vid is old but im doing this to my delorean and its starting to be alive ❤️, thanks a lot for this tutorial!!!
@shredBucketheadshred8 жыл бұрын
great stuff :D remember tho that a Delorean has a plastic nose and rear so some grey paint would be more realistic in those sections
@icenesiswayons99625 жыл бұрын
The only thing about this car that really favors the Delorian is the rear panel. The front end looks more like the Pontiac Sunbird. You pulled the finish off nicely. Thanks.
@Agamemnon28 жыл бұрын
Kinda weird they bothered to paint it at all, since the bare metal already looks way better than the factory silver paint. The steel wool definitely takes it that extra step further, though.
@shredBucketheadshred8 жыл бұрын
It would oxidize very quickly left bare and without the directional brushing would look very poorly cleared
@kruleworld8 жыл бұрын
Most real deloreans that are painted are because they were too cheap to get the stainless steel repaired (which is very expensive). if you bought one of those, you'd have to do the same thing as this video.
@danielhughes3965 жыл бұрын
@@kruleworld what are you talking about. Most aren't painted.
@kruleworld5 жыл бұрын
@@danielhughes396 There are a few that have been painted after leaving the factory. be cautious as that's a sure sign of panel damage.

You really hit the nail on the head with that Delorean. That made a huuuge difference just the paint alone. Looks legit now. I think it would be cool to make the darker gray delorean as well.

I do knife work - and when we want a matte finish we polish up and then use 1000 grit or there about in one direction like you did with the steel wool. I love your look so much more. Well done.

Love the video. I agree it looks WAY better without the silver paint. I don't know what HW was thinking. One nit to pick: factory Delorean bumpers are gray, not black.

Great tutorial and tip for getting the Delorean looking like it should! I have the black version (yuck) and have been wanting to do something to spruce it up. I was going to spray it silver but this method beats any spray can job! Now I gotta go find it and do it! Thanks again!

You should do this more often. The brushed look fixes most of the scratches the car body usually has, especially because of the sanding.

So, 10 year old me thought it would be a good idea to paint a Hotwheels car with Testors enamel paint without removing the base coat. 8 years later, I found the old car, and I'm trying to remove said paint. So far, I'm trying some 91% isopropyl alcohol on a Kleenex, which seems to be working, however is there an easier way to remove paint without harming the base paint?

@baremetalHW8 жыл бұрын
+Kount Five I think they make a UV spray that you can put over the clear that will keep the UV from turning it yellow.. other than that you would need to keep it out of sunlight and other forms of UV light. I have cars I clear coated about 7 years ago I keep in in a box... no yellow yet.
