Thanks, Jerry! I was surprised myself when I discovered the story after I fished the car out of the toy bin at the recycling outlet.

Great work Johan! What a great result! Thank you. Just one tiny issue. The DeLorean factory was built in Dunmurry, an area just on the outskirts of Belfast in *Northern Ireland* which is part of the United Kingdom. Ireland is a separate country. Its official name is the Republic of Ireland.

Nice,Johan. Did Hot wheels pre-empt the DeLorean?
@BelgianDiecastRestorationsАй бұрын
Thanks! No, the Delorean was already being produced. Mattel just started making the model when all they had was an oral agreement with DMC. DMC then sold the license officially to Lesney, leaving Mattel empty-handed (but with lots of money already spent on designing the mold).

What type of jewelry welder and axle wire are you using? Very nice job on such an oddball model!
@BelgianDiecastRestorationsАй бұрын
Thanks! 🙂 Those are 1mm steel axles. They can be found in any hobby store. I'm using an 80 Amp jewelry welder. You can find them on Amazon and AliExpress. It comes with all accessories, but I made a new wire with a crocodile clip to clamp on the axle. Make sure to use steel wire as brass or other light metals simply melt when welded.
