Thank you so much! , Im so happy to be any help..it IS really logical and simple, but we fly fishing instructors often seem to love to complicate stuff :D

I haven’t been fly fishing very much over the past few years so the casting is all over the place. The obsession is back. Thanks for the superb content, all the way from Ireland

@@adriann344 try to practice to cast on the "side" paralell feet so you can watch your line all the time :) This video of my 5 best asting trix is in Swedish, but Im sure you can figure it all out, just mute the sound :D :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKK1oXmOh8mSi7c its SO much easier to deliver ALL cast, backhand, forehand, with and without the double haul and of course switch/spey and roll casts...they are all the same :) and...break the surface with your rod tip every single time you want t start a cast...that extra tension and loading distance will make a HECK of a difference right from the start :) Have a great season! I hope to see you by a stream in Ireland some day :)

This is the best explanation of the Straight Line Path I have seen! I enjoyed the practical practice you showed, especially the marker taped to the rod base.

So happy to hear...I almost giggled when i first did it on my white board...so simple...and for ME a better mental picture..instead of that old bloody old clock...that even if we SAY 11-1...its always pass 12 o clock...and that is NOT straight, right? its a halv cirkel we tell our brains to follow..:D So Tnx for that comment i really really appreciate it mate :)

Your idea started me thinking. As someone who has struggled all my fly-fishing life to improve my line path, especially on the back cast (and I'm now 76 years old!) I wondered if I could expand on your idea and perhaps develop a muscle memory which will stay with me once Covid-19 allows me back on the water. I cut a piece of brush shank about 30cms long and screwed a cup hook into one end although an eye would be better, this would represent my rod handle. I then stretched a piece of fence wire, parallel with the ground, between two clothes poles in my garden about 30cms above my shoulder height. By standing next to the wire and hooking the cup hook onto it I can practice my casting stroke, sliding the cup hook back and forwards along the wire. This should ensure a perfect stroke (I think).

Oh...and please also try out to practise the "side cast" ...it really helps you "programing" the old back bone to perfect your timing, your acceleration as well as forming tight loops with a really straight line path :) when that is perfected, Then its just to raise the rod up :)...and you can stand or look at the cast in anyway as you prefer :) The casting motion will stay the same :)

@@sameochannel7637 There's more to this casting business than meets the eye! I thought that my brush shank and fence wire would ensure a perfect straight line path but no, you have to remember to cock the wrist so that the handle remains vertical throughout the stroke, using the shoulder and elbow and not the wrist. I need advice about a wrist 'flick' or 'turn over' at each end of the stroke. It seems to me that I might have to lift my hand as I turn over the wrist in order to maintain a straight rod-tip path or does the rod straightening out compensate for bending the wrist? I've decided that next season is going to be the time I get it all 'sorted' (but I say that each year) as arthritic shoulders and neck, not to mention bifocal specs are making it more difficult to see what the line is doing in the air behind me with each passing year.

@@tommurray3974 Agree :) and yet...its not complicated at all...as long as your rod path is straght...and you just keep it straght, you can use the wrist or cock it...doesn´t matter :) as long as you keep the line straigt...as i showed on the paper lying on the bench :) I will do the side cast tutorial in English a.s.a.p.!! I started my fly fishing career 1973...but didn´t learn how to cast until 1993 :D And ever since that day I try to make stuff more easy and simple...couse it IS! ;) Best of luck now, I will be back with the sidecast and Ola Spång!

So glad to see you again! This is a brilliant idea..you can actually See the path your hand is on. I’m definitely going to share this with some beginners I know that are still making arcs in their stroke. Thanks a lot! 👍👍 Best wishes and Happy holidays to you! ✌️

What a lovely energy! I'm not into fly casting, but I'm sure interested to try out the pen and paper trick and check if I'm any good 😄 Do you have any trick to remove that pen color from the wall I want to hear about it 😜 Keep it up! 👍🏻
