After watching countless of videos, this is THE one most important tip I've learned. Wish I came across this vid first! 12 years old, but still one of the best.

Excellent video demonstrating how to cause your line to create tighter loops!

Excellent advice. I'm just starting to fly fish and am having problems with tailing loops. Saw your other video on that topic but I think this one goes to the core of what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.
@bhubbard4917 жыл бұрын
This! THIS! I've been working so hard trying to tighten my loops. I've managed to stop tying those trailing loop knots in my tippet but still haven't been able to get nice tight loops. I've had my wife out video taping my casting practices and I've reviewed those videos and found some bad habits. But THIS video holds the key! Excellent demonstration of what it means to cast in a "straight line." Gotta get back out in the yard for more casting practice! :)

Excellent instrution videos! I'm unsure of my elbo placement-do you cover this topic in any of your videos? Do you always hold your elbo in close to your body, etc? Thanks so much
@CaptChrisMyers3 жыл бұрын
My elbow stays close to my side for most casts but it slides back and forth on a straight line. The longer the cast, the longer the movement. You elbow should not generally be up near your shoulder. I will try and make a video on this topic, thanks.

@@CaptChrisMyers Great! Your casting videos are the best on youtube by far! Thanks
@richarde13558 жыл бұрын
Great stuff; I see people get out of plane so often when they cast, particularly when they start lengthening their stroke for extra distance. Their cast starts rotating around their shoulder joint. As Lefty Kreh says "The fly will go in the direction the rod tip speeds up and stops".Just a note Capt. Chris, and this is NOT to be critical but meant as an observation, but check out your thumb at 2:04; your arm/stroke and thumb are getting out of plane on the backstroke, but the arm/thumb and stroke come back in to plane on the forward stroke. One of the perils of video...

How do you make it not sound like a whip? I’ve tried putting hardly any force and it still cracks.
@CaptChrisMyers5 жыл бұрын
If you are hearing a cracking sound behind you like a whip that means you are starting your forward cast long before the line has had a chance to unroll and straighten out behind you. You must stop and freeze at the end of the back stroke until the line straightens before you come forward.
@scycosnake39645 жыл бұрын
Chris Myers oh yeah i guess i dont usually let it straighten out, thanks
@georgelodeiro70104 жыл бұрын
do you have any DIY apparatuses we can use in a park or an open field to allow us to cast with a rod and have something that is constantly telling you if your off the straight line for example in golf you would get a yard stick and use that to make sure your are pointing at your target before a swing.
@CaptChrisMyers4 жыл бұрын
Like I show in the video, I just use the rod as a straight line checker and then go through the casting motion with a bare hand using the rod to see if the thumb is going straight.

But we have to come off that straight line a little bit, no? Start watching around 3 min mark on this video to see what i’m talking about. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jojNiKiibb-iodU
@CaptChrisMyers3 жыл бұрын
If you try to think about doing that, it becomes too complicated. Not even sure I totally agree with that theory but i definitely do not purposely try and do it. Check out this slow motion cast and see if you can tell if I am leaving the straight line path by inches. Too hard to say. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWbOpJxrqbJrnrs Concentrate on staying on the SLP and it will come naturally.
