I'm studying to be a medical technologist right now and yes, I agree! Drawing is the best thing you can do if you're studying biology (includes cell bio, molecular bio, anatomy, hematology, microbiology... you name it!). I always re-draw everything to memorize and understand. You can take your time and draw the diagram neatly for your notes and that alone will help a lot. After that, when you're studying and revising, take some scrap papers, quickly draw again while explaining each steps!

I got an A for biology and I want to share some of my tips. it's important to do past papers even the ones from old syllabus. It's really important to correct and then go through the mark scheme and write your mistake and difficult questions on a notebook and revise them sometimes. The good thing about old syllabus A-levels is AS and A2 are in different papers so you won't have to wait till you have covered most A2 & AS content you can start doing them even at the first year. Finally the most important tip= work hard and aim to get an A*

it is not about how many days , weeks, or months you spend. it is all about how you spend them!. 1st step, study all chapters and understand them(otherwise you are wasting your time), but don't forget to take Notes. and give some days to study before your test, it is just to memorize what you learnt. Don't wait for the last day to come! I once failed my 1st biology test. but I studied all chapters before the test. my mistake was that I didn't take notes what I had learnt. but fail, fail, fail, then Success. Nothing is easy.

A tip i found really helped is to take the slides if your instructor posts them and your textbook and focus on the topics in the lecture slides. Also, pictures are key- especially for men. Draw the different systems; I drew the entire photosynthetic process out, but I remembered every step and enzyme.

A couple of great points that Gabby makes-write down the topic for each powerpoint, and draw pictures. Especially draw pictures if you know you will be tested on structures. After you take notes, use youtube and just the internet to research any concepts you do not understand. My anatomy book was fine, but some of it I feel like was done in error. They might talk about the Renal system, and fail to mention that it is an ancient term for kidney. Also, look up the latin meaning of the words, do not use mnemonics as you are not really learning about the terms. We are not looking for a shortcut, we are looking to respect the origins of biology.

Irene Nwankpa I just took Physics 272 during the summer (6 weeks) and it was a hell. On the last two weeks, I felt like a cat with its claws trying to hang on a tree hoping I won't loose my mind.

I took crazy notes and my botany lab teacher gave only two questions for the final. No textbook, workbook, and etc. I hope they fire him. The two question were intense. I got a stupid C for the course. Since that day I always ask my professors if the midterm and final is based on the textbook if they don't know drop the class and cut your losses. If say no just listen to the lecture. Drop the class and cut your losses. If they say yes with confidence, take notes at home with the textbook, in class, do quizzes online and ace the tests. Hope this helps. Also pay attention to the kind of textbook they use some of these professor love to use southern style authors. They are so esoteric and love to write. At some point is just a turn off to read their lengthily paragraphs . Plus you can see how they try to hide information vs. authors who write using plain English then ask similar question on the homework. Going back to the homework questions sometimes half of them are not clearly define you just have to figure it out yourself. I mean is ok however if you have 4 subjects, then have to do laundry, and etc. Intuition is going steer you to just skip it and move on to another subject instead of wasting time thinking what is this. Try to quickly scan the textbook if it is kinda funky. DROP THE CLASS AND WAIT FOR ANOTHER PROFESSOR WITH A DIFFERENT TEXTBOOK. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS LOGIC UNTIL NEAR THE END OF MY COLLEGE LIFE. HOPE THIS HELP. SOME MY FRIENDS KNEW THIS IN HIGH SCHOOL. DROPPING CLASSES LIKE THERE IS NOT TOMORROW OR ASK YOUR FRIENDS THEY WILL TELL TO DROP IT. YOU GOTTA KNOW THE SILENT BOYCOTT. AFTER A WHILE THE COUNSELORS WONDER WHY THEY CAN FILL A CLASS. LOL.

That’s what I do for my lecture class my teacher prints out the power points then I go back and rewrite it in my own words and I pass my exams all the time when I do that. With lab my teacher emails us pictures with the different bones and systems. Then I’ll go on google and print off work sheets and do it over and over again. Then on our student account she has practice test and I do those without my notes. It’s just all memory.

For the math class I had an Arabian teacher and the other math teacher was Chinese and neither one of them were good at English so I got the Chinese teacher number and took pics of my test and assignments and told him it was hw so in the end he would do all the problems and explain them through text

How do you deal with a professor who purposely make college freshman level biology as difficult as possible and the way she balances that out (so that half of her class doesn't fail which directs the deans attention to her) is to allow her student to get half a point back for each wrong answer through test corrections and research after the exam is completed? Literally, when I spoke to her she said it is her job to discourage students from becoming biology majors because there are too many students who want to go to medical school; thus, it is her job to produce as many C students as she can. Let me start off my saying hi I am in intro bio and my teachers make it harder then it needs to be and their power points are not helpful so my question is how did you study from the book like how did you know what to pull out and what's important thanks

Jordan Hearn I am a science and math teacher. Go to the end of the chapter and look at the review questions. I suggest you actually write them down. But it actually depends on your learning style. Then as you are reading the actual text, refer to the questions and try to answer them along the way. This should assist with most of the important things that will be on your exam or what is expected of you to be familiar with from the course. Best of luck! 😂 READING IS FUNDAMENTAL!
