You have achieved a very nice finish on this fowler ! As you quite rightly observe the finish is to your own taste, there are always others that will say it does not look new, but that is their choice, I think the bone black highlights you have are just right, so many go to heavy with the tint, but by tinting in the areas that would not get any wear it looks just right, I also use scotchbright to apply a little wear on the raised parts of the stock, but it needs careful consideration, and a 100 years of use will make it look right anyway! Very well done! Chris B.

Beautiful fowler. If you were going for a well used, but loved gun, I think you nailed it.

Very nice to see this as I'm thinking about how to finish mine (16 gauge, walnut). I have a couple projects before I get to it, but I've your video bookmarked -- thanks!

Well done Sir! I love the way it looks. Just a small hint. The ends of the lock screws need just a dab of color. Thanks for posting. Mike

What is the oil you used. I couldn’t catch the name.
@@Utahflintlocks thank you Does the Becks have some stain in it or do I need to apply a stain in addition to the oil?
@UtahflintlocksАй бұрын
@@SaltyJim with Walnut traditionally they didn’t use a stain. But it has pigments in it that give it a traditional red hue that is very reminiscent of European walnut finishes. That’s one of the main reasons I went with this oil instead of normal linseed oil and a stain. If you just use that oil and the wax you should get a very similar look.
