The 3x rent requirement is easy to get around. With my last 2 apartments I moved money from my checking account into my brokerage account then I slowly redeposit funds into my checkings bi-weekly for 1-2 months, classifying the deposit as investment income. It worked each time.

My area is expensive. I don’t make 3xs the rent, more like 2xs but my first check is always rent. I’ve never not paid my rent because I don’t want to move back in with the parents. Plus, I drive DD to put my rent amount back into my account.

I barely didn’t make the 3x rent rule. For pretty much any apartment I looked at. I finally found a leasing agent that would work with me, she told me should would take the income I made for the past 3 months and average that to see what I’d make a per month on average. And that netted me a number that met the requirements.

Some people will try to get away with whatever they can and take advantage of people. In southern CA, renting sites suggest making 3x the rent, as youre looking at a studio that cost $1725 - $2040 because everything else is rediculous. Like bitch, I wouldnt be looking to live in a studio if I made 5k a month....honestly was hoping for tips on how to fake paper work paperwork lol.

You're not joking. I'm in SoCal as well and a tiny 1 Bedroom is like 2500/month and they want you to make 2.7 times. They also refuse, in bad faith, to negotiate on rates. I don't know if you've noticed this, but there is a premium on Studio and Junior suites. They are actually more expensive per square foot than 1 Bedroom apartments. Junior/Studio suites are such a scam. Another issue is that all the rents are designed behind Dual Income tenancy. That means even a 1 Bedroom apartment is priced for two people. It's rough being single and working class. The fact they refuse to negotiate on rent should be criminal though. I feel the same way, though. If I actually made enough income to meet their requirements I'd be paying a mortgage instead. Unfortunately, home prices are so inflated out here we wouldn't be able to meet the down payments. It's such a clown show in the People's Democractic Republic of California. If you're not the Commissariat in your exclusive gated communities, you just get fucked.

We make 2x the rent of the average of a 2 bedroom, we have been looking Toronto for over 3 months and all have said no because we don’t make 3x the rent (that would be $8400 a MONTH). Two of us are students, so we don’t even have full time jobs. We have savings and grants for 16000, but still not good enough for landlords in Toronto… so many landlords are so greedy. We have to move out of our current place on Jan 1st and we are going to be homeless because we can’t find anything cheaper than 2600! It’s crazy. We have the money, but still not good enough… we will have 3 people. It’s so ridiculous to have to make 3x income when the prices are SO HIGH!!

I had to leave NY due to DV and even though my previous landlord was totally ok with it because I was on a month-to-month and paid like 2 months advance for my ex's unemployed ass to sit around high on benzos doing fuckall in our apartment while I was living in a tiny rented room in a totally different state. How is 3x the rent calculated? I understand that it’s 3x the amount. That’s just simple math. What I do not understand: is that proven by AVERAGING the last 3 paycheck stubs or by actually providing 3 months worth of pay check stubs? If I were in your shoes- I’d go to the court house and get all of my personal docs right away. I’d get a job to show verifiable income. Your credit is great so that’s not a problem. Depending on how bad you need a place, I’d try to rent a room from someone who doesn’t verify your employment/ income. As long as you’ve got the money to cover your rent and bills that would give you enough time to get on your feet.
