Hey dude, great video. Just out of interest, what was your project that you referenced in your application and interview?
@HardivHk
@HardivHk 5 ай бұрын
Thanks! The project I made was a GSR sensor connected to a Raspberry Pi that converted analogue signals from the sensor to tell you how moisturised your skin was. I talked about how I could further extend the project by using a neural net trained on the analog data to provide more insights into it for the user. Hope that helps :)

our school does resistant materials for dt in theroy, so mechanical principles is something we do not cover. do you think I need to learn all the theory as I don't have time with all these mocks coming up. however i do computer science, so it possible to use all knowledge from there?
@HardivHk
@HardivHk 8 ай бұрын
You don't necessarily need to cover all the theory, but skimming over it may definitely help - as long as you get the general idea of what's going on with them. Knowledge of CS is great but I think the exam tries to evaluate whether you're a good all-round engineer and inventive problem-solver.

Hello. I saw your other comment linking materials on mechanisms. Are there any similar resources you’d recommend for electronics that may be useful for the Aptitude test?
@HardivHk
@HardivHk Жыл бұрын
Sure! Again for basic electronics/circuitry I'd recommend just looking at a DT/Physics Textbook, but you can learn more about microcontrollers like raspberry pi (something I involved heavily in my designs) here:projects.raspberrypi.org/en/pathways/getting-started-with-raspberry-pi (Note that if you are using a microcontroller writing some pseudocode/designing a flowchart for the program will be good, more info on that here: www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z3bq7ty/revision/3)

Thank you for this video. I was just wondering, when it comes to Architecture, I want to study it at Cambridge and its quite technical as opposed to aesthetic, so I was wondering if you think this would still be accepted? because my school say that's fine, but I'm not too sure.
@HardivHk
@HardivHk Жыл бұрын
No problem, I think as long as it's technical enough you should be fine, since the Arkwright table does seem to specifically point out 'Aesthetic Architecture' as prohibited. At the end of the day, there's no harm in applying, and as long as you show good design skills and technical knowledge, they'll probably be happy to have you on board :)

@@teppa9030 Anything that interests you! I personally had more of an interest in computing and electronics, so I made a raspberry-pi skin moisture sensor that could warn people if their skin was too dry. There's also examples of people making model planes/rockets to display their interests in aeronautical/aerospace. Basically choose your engineering field of interest and try to make a smaller version of an already existing invention, or come up with something where you can use your tools and knowledge to solve a problem. Hope that helps!

For the exam what kind of books or videos did you read to get your knowledge?
@HardivHk
@HardivHk Жыл бұрын
I didn't really read any books or videos specifically in preparation for the exam, rather just practiced applying any knowledge I already had by doing past papers. I'd say concepts that were most useful to me were mechanisms and materials that I learnt during DT, and basic circuitry that I learnt in physics. I also used some of my coding knowledge from computing. Hope that helps!

Hi, I haven't submitted my application yet but how important would you say sketching skills are? I'm not very good at drawing (like I can't even draw 3d properly). In the video you said they were very important but by that did you mean that drawing well was important or drawing clearly was important? Im really nervous about this so im just asking now
@HardivHk
@HardivHk Жыл бұрын
I'd say they're pretty important, but your sketches don't necessarily have to be artwork haha. As long as they're clear and understandable they should be fine. If you'd like help with sketching in 3d, try taking a look at drawing in 2 point-perspective, it may give you some insights into drawing in 3D. Hope that helps!

@@HardivHk hi sorry for coming back to this after 3 months, but i have a new problem. Im going to do the IB and that includes 6 subjects, and i've finished the application form except for the part that asks for your subjects. But there's a problem: the form only allows 5 subjects max. Do you know if there is an option i'm missing that specifically selects the IB

How do you get a mentor? Also, how did they first message you?
@HardivHk
@HardivHk Жыл бұрын
Once you're selected to be an Arkwright Scholar, they'll use a platform called MentorNet to assign you to a mentor, who will usually be an employee at a large engineering firm. Once they're assigned, they'll message you through the platform (which is monitored for security purposes) and introduce themselves. Hope that helps!
