How about a video on tips for teacher's who are trying to get their first teaching jobs abroad? This is the route I'm taking, and it would be huge if you had any advice for those of us attempting this straight out of our cetification programs.

Is it okay if a Filipino Citizen will apply?

Need to update this with a sequel due to the Covid-19 hysteria, government reactionary policies and how it has all come together to extremely complicate international travel and double or triple related expenses.

Thanks for the video! Informative and inspiring. What sort of extra curricular activities are relevant to mention in an international school application form? Thanks

thanks for sharing your valuable experiences with us in youtube! Would you explain to me more about strong reference? Does strong reference can be present or previous coworker if my supervisors are not very good in English?
@bigeminicbemcbigeminic91967 жыл бұрын
Hi Diana. In this case you could write your own letter of recommendation, translate it to your boss (or get a translator) and then get him/her to sign it. This is both ethically appropriate, and may result in less stress for both you and your boss. You could indicate in your reference section that the head of school (or principal) has limited English, and for a more detailed reference they could contact a more direct supervisor or a coworker. In most cases they will still want to talk to at least your immediate supervisor.

Any tips for last minute (April-June) appliers?
@bigeminicbemcbigeminic91967 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, you'll need to expand your search to include some search agencies like teachaway and seeketeachers. They tend to have some last minute openings.

Hello dear big E . Thanks for sharing your experience. I have no teaching experience and no certificate at all. Just moved to UAE and decided to switch to this field from finance. Do you suggest to start working in a poorly ranked school to just break through the market while I'm studying for my teaching licence or it will damage my CV ?

I'm so sorry for the late reply. I've been away for some time. I think it is a good idea to get experience where you can find it. You can always weave what you learned from a less-than-ideal situation into an interview about what you would do instead. Good luck!

This is so stressful! I haven't even decided which country I'd like to go to. (though my friend is trying to help me get a job as an international school chemistry teacher in Shanghai. I'm curious which country you "landed" ?

I am a New York state certified art teacher (K-12) and have taught English in South Korea these past 2 years (not international schools). How feasible would it be for me to apply for a teaching job that is not art related?

Hi Big E, Firstly, thank you for these videos. They are very informative clearly outline a lot of the most useful information. I am currently an ESL teacher. I have a Master's and Bachelor's in History and a TESOL Cert with 4 years experience in Vietnam, Australia and South Korea as well as online. I have been contemplating getting a teaching certificate and making the transition to international schools. Do you have any insider knowledge on international History/Social Sciences jobs? Also, would 4 years of ESL experience give my resume a significant enough boost to overlook my lack of qualified teaching experience? Thanks!

Hi Scott, Thanks for the comment. As I'm sure you know, it's hard to answer with certainty. An international school with a specific need would likely see you as a competent teacher, but it would also likely be difficult to get your resume to the top of the list in a more competitive position. But, don't let that keep you from trying. I might suggest a two-pronged approach. Apply for international schools, at the same time as applying to independent schools in the USA through Carney-Sandoe or Southern Teachers. Many times, independent schools in the US will put a higher value on field expertise than teaching experience, and will allow you to get experience as well as a teaching license. If you go this route, look for states that offer "alternative routes to certification" that allow experts in the field to get certified without any/much preservice education. Carney-Sandoe also lists some international school jobs, and I actually got my most recent international school placement through them just last month. :) Best of luck to you.

Hi, I am Priya from India. I am working as a primary school teacher in an IB school since last 6 years. I do have certified qualification to teach Bachelor in Education. In your video you talked about to be certified to teach from an English speaking country. I want to apply for PR in Canada and want to continue to work as a Primary years educator in an IB school. Now Is there any online course to get certificate to be eligible to teach in Canada or I will have to join the course over there. I wanted to have a job offer before I go there. Is it really possible to qualify from Canada joining an online course and get certified?
@bigeminicbemcbigeminic91967 жыл бұрын
These are all great questions. Unfortunately I'm not really familiar with many certification programs from Canada. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
