My routine is Monday is my rest and manicure day. I take off my polish from last week. I do a mega nail soak. I slather my nails with oil and put vinyl gloves on and let it soak from morning till late afternoon or evening, yes you can still do stuff around the house with gloves on. My nails are naturally super dry to the point they curve from the side inward. Then I wash off excess and paint. Every morning after while i drink my coffee before I start my day, I do a mini nail soak for 30min to an hr depends on what's I got going that day. I may put another top coat on after the soak. And yes it seems to me that oil dose penetrate the polish. And I repeat that every morning then on Monday I start over by taking my polish off and doing a mega soak. This routine keeps my nails hydrated and keeps them from curling weirdly and they grow super fast and rarely have brakes and when I do, I know within a month there back long again. My husband likes my long nails and really likes that I do my own manicures then spending money at a salon. I get that most people dont have time for a mega soak. But if your nails are dry do the soak at night while sleeping. I also do all the preventive stuff that she mentions in the video so I dont brake my nails.

I keep a bottle of hand lotion and a dropper bottle of oil on my sink next to the hand wash, whenever you wash, use the lotion for the whole hand and one drop of oil for both hands nails and skin around, if it feels to oily or gross I use a towel to wipe the excess but I don’t wash it off, also using a 10% urea ointment for the cuticles when lotion is not good enough, another thing, it’s better to slightly nudge your skin around the nails daily rather than push back once a week, but use the cuticle remover once a week, I get these tips from ‘the salon life’ on KZbin and she saved my nails

This is a wonderful video! I love hearing about other peoples routines because we can learn from one another. People never talk about nail beds length. This is very important and something I had to learn on my nail growth journey . Someone with long nail beds will always appear to have a longer nail length because they were born with more nail space. So, ladies if you have short or med nail beds it can very difficult to have super long nails. I have med nail beds and over the years I've found some tips that have helped me have and keep long nails: #1 Remember what's long for you may not be what's long for someone else #2 always wash or style wet hair with plastic glove on #3 always have two or three coats of something on your nails #4 and the most important *know your nails normal breaking point. This is the point when your nails normally will break, if that makes since. For example, when my nails start to hit the keyboard before my fingertip that's when it's time for me to reshape/ file them down a little. I try to keep the nail right under my normal breaking length. Since I've started to do this I have a break maybe once a year, if that. People always are amazed that my nails are real and that I paint them myself. Good luck ladies and gents!

The nail bed length is such a good point! Mine are a pretty decent length so even when my nails are shorter, they're still much longer than some. Also about knowing you nail length limit, great thought. The photos in my thumbnail picture are my absolute limit and that might be pushing it. Knowing the limits on your nail length can really save you grief from a nail break later on. Thanks so much for sharing!

Great tips! I broke my long nails about a month ago and stopped wearing polish because I hate how they look short but I can’t seem to grow them out without polish. I never realized how important that was until now!

I basically do the exact same as you do. I have now maintained my nails for 3 years. Prior to that I owned a preschool and my nails took a battering and didn't do my nails that often because they always chipped and broke.

Thank you for the tips! And thank you for the video, I’ve been enjoying your videos a lot and every time you post, I have to click really fast 😂 I used to only put lotion on my hands and rub it in my cuticles as well but my nails would break all the time, I recently started using nail oil and it’s a life changer, my nails are finally growing again! I’ve been using the Cuticle Buddy from ShopNBM. Something I’ve been doing as well is before bed I apply a lot more oil than usual and let it sit for a bit, then apply a really thick hand cream on and that kinda seals all the moisture in.

I always had short nails until quarantine, when they grew out without me noticing because I had to do everything on a laptop. Now I have a pretty long left hand and a medium (for most people fearly long) on my right because they break more. Right now I have one break but just along 1/4 of the nail and not to the point it moves, so I left that ontouched for almost 2 weeks and seems to hold very well. That tends to happen to me often, I think it's because I consider my nails pretty strong. But the ones on my right tend to break at the sides and I don't know how to make it stop. I usually left them broken if they aren't moving

i love the fragrance free neutrogena Norwegian cream only need a little dap it's great, i also love the vaseline intensive care advance repair hand cream it's fragrance free and a little thinner but still moisturising , i love the Elizabeth Arden eight hour hand cream love that and smells nice too and i am in Australia and also like the ego Qv hand cream and they also make one with spf15 too for day wear . i too always wear nail polish on my nails and do a quick dry top coat every day too and i use diy nail oil of jojoba, castor, olive and rose-hip oil mix and i also use the revlon cuticle oil as it's a budget dupe for the CND solar nail oil as it has the same ingredients and also use cuticle balm like Burt's bees or badger balm one and wear white cotton gloves to bed every night and sometimes during the day if my hands are cold or skin is dry due to eczema and i also only use a glass file for my nails and buff the tips only with a nano file to minimise any peeling and once a week i will remove my polish and oil my nails and put on plastic surgical gloves on to let it get in my nails for a few hours to over night and then i re apply my polish. i also have gloves for winter too. i use nail oil, balm and hand cream constantly all the time through out the day and at least morning and night if busy or not well. i also use false nails when i get a tear as i file the false nail to fit my nail size and then just use that to grow out the break.

Thanks for your comment! I didn't even think about getting an SPF hand cream that sounds great! I've considered using fake nails to cover nail breaks, how do you glue yours down and remove them without damaging your natural nail?

This could not of come at a better time, my nails are/were just past my finger tips. I had 3 split bad enough where I could see the indent under the polish, so I filed them down just below the splitting hoping that will stop the splitting. I just had an order come in from Pacifica with cuticle remover (1st time using), Prime and protect nourishing undercoat base, there quick dry top coat and a sugared scrub. So for the first time this morning I did the works, ended with polish, oil, serum and lotion. They really are in the worst shape they have been since January when I started this hobby. Would you recommend I just do the works once a week until they are in back to how they were or increase to twice a week. I know all hands and nails are different just wanted a second opinion. Sorry to ramble but I'm a talker...Hope you have a great weekend..

You don't necessarily need nail polish for nails. I had very long nails on my left hand for over 10 years, and the only thing I used was homemade coconut body cream.
