Sometimes bees don’t want to go to the second box even if the first one is crowded.
That’s because they don’t feel the queen was there.
You can encourage your bees to go up by putting a frame with old brood comb in that box.
To get bees to move up just add a frame with capped brood to that second box.
Keep in mind that the nights must be warm. And that your beehive is strong enough to maintain two boxes. Otherwise you’ll get chilled brood.
This hive has a new queen emerged from a spare supersedure queen cell we put in.
It hasn’t developed yet but it’s full of eggs, larvae and capped brood that will emerge soon. So we are encouraging bees to use the second box especially because it’s an eight frame Langstroth hive.
