Another bit of great advice..👍 I’ve noticed that my queens will avoid laying in the old black comb…she knows that it’s not a good place to lay her eggs, but the colony will store nectar in it..!

Cheers NA. That's an interesting observation. I've never noticed that myself

love the videos, very useful what do I do if my frames have brood in them and I don't want to put them at edge because that will split the brood nest

Are you sure that the new frame need to go into the middle? I'm afraid that the frame in the middle can become a barrier for the queen and she won't go further and won't be laying eggs in one half of the broodbox. For me it is very important right now to make a right choice as 3 days ago I bought my first beehive with 8 frames. It currently has 2 frames with foundation in the middle and aside and bees working to build these. I plan to move them to 10 frames box and add 2 more frames with foundation. As the side frames usually have honey and bee bread I plan to add frames with foundation as 2nd and 9th. In that case queen work should not be affected. For me vital my first colony grow so that I will split it later this summer(I'm in Australia) and will have few more queens just in case so that I won't have to buy another beehive. So the question what position should be new frames with foundation added?

Great video thanks. If there is still brood and it gets split with the foundation in the middle, will that not cause any problems?
@BlackMountainHoney3 жыл бұрын
My experience is they will draw it out in a matter of days if you are still feeding so it shouldnt cause issues and split any brood.

I'm curious what you do with the honey after melting it? Do you feed it back to them? Also people seem to talk about causing a split in the colony and the bees on the non-queen side of the frame making queen cells. How often do you find this happens? Thanks@@BlackMountainHoney

Why did you scratch the drawn comb back? ...

Why are you so opposed to drone comb? I know they arent productive but they are an essential part of the sustainable bee colonies
