My strength has always been my ears. I hear and then play. But I am never confident I'll remember under stress.

It's good you know what your strengths are! Stress can make it tricky, but if you try to let yourself experiment maybe by playing for 1 person for now, or recording yourself, you can learn how to manage your memory in more challenging situations too 💛

I memorize very easily. It just happens when I am learning new music and it is helpful because I’m not at a level where I can be reading and playing together very well without pauses and delays. But I went back yesterday to two pieces and realized I had completely forgotten them. I thought why? I don’t understand. I memorize patterns or shapes and also notes. I guess I need to memorize away from the harp. Maybe that will help.

If it's been a while since you practised these pieces, it's normal to forget things! But if you use patterns, shapes and other helpful hints to memorise your pieces, it won't be long before you can play them again 💛

I would put a piece of music down for a few weeks, simply because it became "sour" after too much practice. When I pick it up again, I would have forgotten everything and need to start again.

It's absolutely normal, and in fact, sometimes it's a healthy choice to put music away. Even if you feel you've forgotten a lot, looking at a piece anew can give you a fresh perspective 💛
