How to get "Certified in Cybersecurity" by ISC2 in 6 days, for free!

ANOTHER entry-level cyber security cert? What's the catch? How can you finish this twice in 4 days? How can it be worth anything it's free and you finished it so fast?
I asked myself the SAME THINGS before I attempted it. But I did it anyway, since I want to know, and now, I can share that knowledge with you.
I am Captain Chang, and you may know me as the guy who got the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate in 5 days.
Let me start from the beginning.
I started the ISC2 "Certified in Cybersecurity" Prep Course on Coursera on Thursday, August 10th, 2023, and finished all coursework on Saturday. August 12th (well within 7 days trial period), except for the "peer-graded" portions of the assignments, which is subject to peer-grading (which finished on August 14th).
THEN I found that ISC2 offers a FREE self-paced course that does not have peer-grading on its OWN website, in MULTIPLE LANGUAGES in addition to English! (Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese...) and no time-limit (but please finish before end of year?)
So I registered for ISC2 version of the prep course on Saturday August 12th, finished all courses on Sunday, August 13th. Yes, I did both the pre-test and the post-test eval as well. And watched EVERY video, and did all the quizzes and so on.
So basically I finished BOTH prep courses for ISC2 "Certified in Cybersecurity" in 4 days.
I registered for the CC exam scheduled for August 15th, 2023. The exam is free with voucher code as a part of your ISC2 candidate membership! (And yes, it's open to people all around the world, NOT limited to North America! ) The exam is at a Pearson VUE test center, and they are in 160 countries around the world (so their website says). I found one that were relatively close to me.
Any caveats? Just two.
1) You only get ONE free exam. If you don't pass, you're on your own for re-tests, which will cost $199 USD, or your local equivalent.
2) if you do pass you will receive an invitation to join ISC2 as a member... at ANNUAL cost of $50 USD. That's it.
NOTE: Their website seems to say you can stay as associate member for 1 year, but I joined. There are other benefits to do so, but the decision is up to you.

TL;DR -- this covers LESS stuff than Google's Cybersecurity, but arguably does a bit better job covering the fundamentals. Google's version covers the soft skills, such as writing reports and stuff a bit better. This one does not cover the soft skills like have you write forensic reports and such.
But given this is an actual certificate that you have to take an exam for, this may arguably mean a little more to your resume, than Google's simple cert without an exam. And right now, it's FREE, both the exam prep and the exam itself.
So what have you got to lose? Go take advantage of this NOW!
THEN go prep for CompTIA Security+. And now you are absolutely set for entry-level cybersecurity position.
P.S. the exam has 100 questions, and you pass with 80%, but 1/4 of the questions don't count (they are prototype questions for the next version of the test) but you don't know which ones. So don't be surprised if you don't know the answer to a few of the questions!

Another cybersecurity cert? Really? But this one is from ISC2, the organization for cybersecurity professionals, called simply "Certified in Cybersecurity", and it's FREE! That's as in, free exam prep courses, and free exam voucher at a proper Pearson VUE testing center! Questions? Comments? Leave them below! EDIT: It seems ISC2 redesigned their website RIGHT AFTER this video had gone live. :-P So their website would no longer look the same as I had shown here. If you have problem finding the free links, please email ISC2 member support which would still be under your membership dashboard. I don't work for ISC2 so I can't help you on why you can't get your benefits.

Great information there! I will check this out. Does it mean you've taken both this and the cousera one? I like the idea that this one has unlimited time compared to the one on coursera. Did you passed the Pearson Vue exams?

Yes, yes, and yes. Took both the Coursera and the ISC2 prep courses, AND took the exam on Tuesday, and passed. I am now an official ISC2 member with CC certificate.

Believe it or not, I didn't take any notes. I had previously completed the Google Cybersecurity Cert, so at least half of the material was already familiar to me. I basically noticed the differences: BC, DR, ethics, the emphasis on OSI 7-layers, and the different types of access controls, made sure I knew all the terms covered at the end of each of the 5 modules, and I think on my ISC2 self-prep final eval, I got like 96%, which is good enough for me. And when the test came, I am quite certain I only took 35-45 minutes, I didn't exactly time myself. If you are not certain about your prep, I think there's a couple guys on Udemy where you can get some prep tests (you probably have to buy their lessons). Anyway, that probably is not much help, use the initial test to find out which area you need further study, and concentrate on that discipline. Good luck!

This one is actually a certification, instead of just a certificate. You will actually take the exam at a PEARSON/VUE test center. You will still need CompTIA Security+ but this one also helps. And since it's free, why not have both?

When you register as a associate member of ISC2, under "benefits" there should be a "free CC exam offer" link. (if not, email ISC2 member support) and that should give you a code. You can then use this code at the Pearson VUE website where you register, and look for a testing center near you, then add the voucher to payment screen, and see if that goes down to zero. Unfortunately I do live in the US and I cannot test for you in your country.

I just checked ISC2 website again, and it does say the offer is for all countries. Pearson VUE has test centers in 160 countries, according to their website. Find your local testing center here: home.pearsonvue.com/About/Locations.aspx

I plan to do a full compare and contrast video in the coming week, but for now, here's the summary: Google Cybersecurity: Pros Very beginner friendly Touches upon Python, SQL, and Linux, and tools like SIEM, Wireshark, and so on Discount for CompTIA Security+ prep and exam It’s from Google! Who doesn’t know Google? Cons Covers a LOT of topics… by skimming / barely touching Does not cover much business continuity and disaster recovery Does not go into deeper networking or access control ISC2 "Certified in Cybersecurity" Pros Straight knowledge test, no essays or such Has an actual certification exam Back by a professional association of the industry Discounts for further certification prep and more Cons Not as famous as Google (or IBM, or Microsoft) Need to pay membership fee (but it’s only $50/year) It expires in 3 years unless you go get CPE units. Since the latter is free, I'd say take both, and use both to help you get S+.
