Used to do this, then I got smart and just got free composted leaves, no more wiating 3 years for wood chips to break down. Now i just stop by the local composting area and get the compost already made.

I have so much fungal activity in my yard that the wood chips break down in less than a year. If you dig around any of the mulched areas you find a thick mat of white mycelium spreading throughout the chips
