Another thing I'd say, is if you don't care about your image or what car you drive - get something obscure that not many people have as first cars. Insured my first car at 18 a 1.1L Citreon C2 which cost £1500 to buy, the insurance was £3500... 😂 I'm now 24, own my own house (mortgage) & payed £650 last year to insure my 2009 Audi S3 with 4 Years NCD and 1 recorded accident (write off) where no other vehicles were involved. With regards to insuring my audi last year when I bought it, things such as the colour, the transmission type and number of door(s) made a difference... There were 2 S3's at the garage I bought mine from, both were 2009 (5 door/Sportback) and had manual gearboxes. The blue one (now mine) quoted £650 for the year and the black one quoted £1300 both with Hastings. However from doing quotes on a variety of S3's before purchasing mine, I also found a DSG/S-tronic gearbox would of cost more to insure than a manual and also 3 doors quoted more than 5 doors. As Sean mentioned, definitely do your quotes in advance that has always helped me to get cheaper quotes. Also the month in which your insuring your car/vehicle can also make a difference in cost. For example winter months tend to be more expensive because drivers are more likely to be involved in a accident/crash.

I bought mine October last year for £12,000, 52,000 miles, Full Audi/VAG Specialist Service History, HPI Clear, Fully Stock/Un-Modified, Very Highly Spec'd etc... Looking on eBay/AutoTrader at the minute people are trying to sell S3 8P's with 70'000 miles or more for anywhere from £9,000 - £14,000... S-tronic's are usually slightly more expensive than manuals due to them being more favourable when it comes to tuning/remapping to "Stage 2" because they are naturally stronger than a manual clutch, but then at that and higher mileage if the the S-tronic/DSG gearbox hasn't been serviced properly it car end up being very costly... There's even a 2012 Orange (rare factory/original paint/colour) Manual S3 on AutoTrader at the minute with 62,000 miles listed at £22,495... 🤷‍♂️

I got a mk2 mx5 1.8 for £960 a year. For my first year of insurance. oh and i managed to get an intake and exhaust mod included within the insurance. just maddd. just a tip 1000-3000 miles per year is the same price... and alot cheaper than putting 8000 miles. Also do put at night you will store your car in a locked garage. it really helps lower premiums. And don't fit mods or whatever. if you choose to add mods it can add like £1500 to the insurance cost... (not fitting mods myself for a while and not declaring is also illegal). Also add an experienced driver (like a parent or two) to your insurance it is crucial for better value.

I used Adrian flux sometime ago. My experience was not good they kept on sending me messages that you must put your box back into car as you can’t remove it. Also they said you have gone over your mileage limit and insurance level would fall to third party only. I hadn’t gone over the limit definitely. The car was used locally. I wouldn’t recommend from my experience luckily didn’t have to claim from them

I have 2 bans, 12 points and 5 convictions in total. My insurance came up to £3800 on my address with everything declared. I got it down to £1600 (third party only) or 2000 (comprehensive) Here’s what I did: 1. Even though I was banned and revoked when asked when I got my license I put in when I first passed (2018 for me) 2. Add my mum who had 4yrs NCB as SECOND DRIVER! it was more when she was first. And say they drive frequently. 3. Add Social/Domestic AND BUSINESS! For main driver only. I don’t know why but it’s cheaper. By the way I thought this was for courier jobs but that’s commercial. So I kept it regardless as it’s £200-300 cheaper than social/domestic only. 4. I only put start date one day ahead, so if today was Monday I’d say start Wednesday. Anyway that’s how I went from £3,800 to £2,000 without lying!

big tip i found out about insurance for first cars is that the smallest engines aren’t always the cheapest. search around everything in your budget between a 1.0L and 2.0L. i managed to insure my 1.4L diesel mini for cheaper than a 1.0L yaris or micra. and it was cheaper to insure a 1.6L audi a3 than a corsa or fiesta.

Mod declaration all depends on the driver not the car. If you drive like you stole it forget it. E.g I own a engine swapped sleeper but never declare anything. It's cheaper to tax and insure. I also owned a focus st at 22 but declared everything because I didn't trust myself with it. If someone hits you and its not your fault never surrender your details or admit liability. Be responsible as a driver.

I got a golf r last year at 21, it was around £1400 with 3 years no claims nearly 1 year later at the age of 22 with 4 years no claims, my insurance quotes are now say its goning to be £3500 to £4000 for the same car 😮‍💨😮‍💨 how is this possible

Adding drivers can actually be more expensive, my dad is on my policy for my 5.9l RAM 1500, he has a completely clean license and never made a claim and it was £200 more to add him to my policy it took it up to £1900 still not bad for a 21 year old driving a huge v8 truck though

@@H2TEN hardly a pointless car pal, I lived in the sticks and got floods around my house a lot so needed something I could stick in 4x4 and drive through anything. Absolutely not a hand me down, I worked hard to buy it. Also came in very handy at the time as I was doing building work on the side and most importantly just loved the car. Driving a CLA45 now

Naa clearing cookies and history defoo does not reduce the premiums. I did it and found that it was £800p/m on a 1.2 ibiza after being around £120 before clearing the cookies. Absolute mockery
