Always great information. I've done some free work to build a portfolio and now my business is taking off. Also, taking some of your advice about getting a website, I've booked clients by having a site. Perception is reality to some. Also, if you have the ability to connect with another photographer and get some shots in with him or her. Especially if your able to post those. The key is to stay busy and keep posting. Your audience don't know if its paid, a colab or what. They just see you putting it work!

The one thing that never gets explained in any of these videos that I’m sure everyone needs is “How do you find clients? And a realistic prime example on the type of email or message you’d send to these people”. So if I’m shooting primarily portraits, how would I find individuals who want portraits? Or music videos. How to find those guys. This is key. I’m sure most of us already have our craft and style. But we need to know how to find them in order to put the skills to work.

I find myself reaching out to people a lot and posting on social media, also offering free work, but I don’t seem to get any interest. I have to say it’s quite demotivating after a while and makes me wonder if I’m just not good enough at it. I really just want to keep shooting, even for free, just cause I enjoy it! Gotta keep trying I guess! Thanks for the tips 😌
@AdrianLardPhoto3 жыл бұрын
Hi IIka! Yes it can definitely be demotivating when it seems like none of your efforts are working...I've been there. It's been times where these things didn't really work well for me, but then I changed my strategy/approach. You have to figure out why it's not working (easier said then done). The first thing we usually think is we just suck which is usually not the case. You just have to try a different approach. Take a step back and see what you can do differently. For example, I changed up what I was saying when reaching out to people & I also targeted more specific people. I seen better results from this. Keep at it and don't give up!

Hello, I would like to ask how you get a consistency with the images? to tell that this is your kind of signature photography. My problem when I always do photoshoot is the images are way different even, I used the same preset and same setting on camera, Does the natural light is important and time? What if I got 5 clients in one day with a different booking time. Hope I get my message clear. Thank you

when such a nice industry(phiotography) is so great it is a pity it is so difficult to get clients, networking, free work, send 50.000 dm`s and emails, honestly something I think it is easier to be a plumber and then people call you, not you have to call them!!! thank you for sharing all this information. I appreciate

I started with taking photos of places me and my family would go, then I walk around the city park and ask people if I could give them a free photo and (with their permission) post it on my FB page or Instagram. They'd share my posts or use it as their profile picture (which to me, is the best thing ever) and tag me, I know I still have a long way to go and I have to be flexible to adapt. I got a text the other day asking to take photos for a birthday party this May, it's my first client and I decided to just charge them P1,500 ($30) because it's my first time.

@@AdrianLardPhoto I feel like I’ve been doing portraiture for a while now, I mean it’s only been 2 years and still I find myself doing photos for free and I know it’s not always about the money but I mean for the time and effort I put in, there’s only great pictures in return. Many don’t want to pay and I find myself approaching instead of being approached. I’ll be doing the same for maternity and family to start with but I know once I find my style, clients would most likely acknowledge and come forward (I hope?)

@@AdrianLardPhoto that’s where my struggle is. I’ve actually set up a separate instagram for maternity and family photography, I’ve just been following similar accounts and I’ve only done one maternity shoot, so I’ve just had to use relatable hashtags, repost others works on my story, and I’ve started asking some friends who have kids or who are pregnant. Trying to build a website on Squarespace also. I don’t know how to market for this type of photography such as posting everyday when I have no content to post :( . I’m regards to the portraiture, I haven’t been consistently posting with that and I think overall I’m just a bit lost with marketing for both 😩😅.

@AdrianLardPhoto4 жыл бұрын
Lol. What do you usually say when you DM them? And for networking👇 - Talk to people at your job and tell them what you do. - Give business cards to people who might be interested in your services - Collaborate with people or businesses related to your photography niche - Go to events in your area..and depending on the event maybe you could get a booth. - The main thing is really just talking to people and building connections. Hope this helps.

I started a photography business in Thailand an closed down after one month. The language barrier is a real problem as it causes me not to find clients. I made 20 USD in the first month. That wasn't even enough to pay the bills. Basically a good piece of advice would be never to open a business in another country if you don't speak the language. It will just be a disaster.

do you think its important to go to college for photography? it seems pretty risky, especially if you're a freelance photographer working for yourself. your income isn't as reliable as a normal job, so you'd probably need a job on the side, yeah? Also you gotta pay for your equipment and traveling fees, so that's a lot of extra expenses. it seems like you're pretty free to photograph what you want, since you're able to choose your clients. what kind of people buy landscape photographs, or just nature images in general? most preferably, I'd like to take photos on my own time, but if I'm not sure how to go about it.
@AdrianLardPhoto2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think you need to go to college. I'm self-taught and my wife is as well. We do this on the side, but there's plenty of photographers who are full-time.
