I agree with accepting a custom order and then putting it up as a listing. I had a person contact me to change an existing listing. I did, then uploaded that item to my shop. It's now just a few months later and I have made over $1K on that listing. 💸 😊

Great stuff, Shawna!! Thank you! We do all of these, and also we combine Tip #2 and Tip #4!! When someone reaches out to us about ANYTHING, we give them a coupon. Example: "Hi, are your shirts unisex?" Answer: "Hi! Thank you for messaging us! Our shirts are unisex. Also, please feel free to use the attached coupon anytime for 15% discount in our shop! Have a wonderful day!" The messager ends up buying from us probably 1/3 of the time which makes it worthwhile. Treating customers effectively is the lifeblood of your business :)

Hi Shawna, I really hope you read this and can help me? I’m SO frustrated right now but won’t stop and give up… first off let me say your video are SO SO VALUABLE I’m binge watching them all (whilst also taking action) I’ve even invested a lot of money in a course and feel your videos are more helpful!! You can tell you used to be a teacher ;) so THANK YOU so much. I’ve been applying a lot of your strategies - my shop is 7 months old and I have 300 listings and 48 sales but I just can’t seem to get momentum in my shop - my views just aren’t increasing day to day. It’s so frustrating putting in the amount of work I am and seem to be chasing my tail. I watched your video with your friend and I’ve been doubling down with listings that are getting views and favourited (and of course that have sold) I’ve been doing this for a while but also throwing tons of new designs out … which I’m now thinking perhaps don’t throw as many new out and just do less and put winning designs on other products - can you help? Any ideas on why my shop just isn’t taking off ? Thank you
@shawnalynn20835 ай бұрын
Hey there! First I want to tell you that you are actually not doing so bad! I know it feels like A LOT of work!!! I'm sorry! It is such a gosh darn hustle in the beginning! At 300 listings I had WAY FEWER sales... maybe 12 or something! At 7 months I had around maybe 1200 listings and was starting to get some real traction... at around 700 listings I had 70 sales. I tell you all this so you know that this is just pretty normal! And look where I am now! It is so worth it! With each listing you will get better at infusing the market research with your designs. I could start a new shop now and get traction in WAY WAY WAY fewer listings... but the knowledge needed to get to that point is built on the back of all those listings it took us to LEARN how to do it! I am rooting for you!!!!!!!!!

@@shawnalynn2083 Thank you so much Shawna :) I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I am now at 91 sales with 345 listings and the further I keep sticking at it I can see it perhaps just takes time to build this thing. I recently bought your teacher resource and I LOVE how this would give me so much direction , it's just not really in my niche and I'm wondering if I go off on another niche am I missing the point of doubling down on my niches that are working... I may give my niche until the new year see where I'm at and start building in the teacher niche if I can't see my goals being met in the new year. ~I recently watched a video on the no friends left behind channel where you managed to get something crazy like 170 sales in 3 weeks for your friend?!?! How did you manage that explosion so quickly!! Did you literally just keep doubling down on a specific design and the same set of keywords so you flooded the market really quickly? Thank you again :)

I want to offer variety but don't want the listings to be overwhelming!

Hey there! I would do all the shirts in one listing... Adult sizes, Youth Sizes and Long sleeves. If you have multiple phrases or designs they can choose from in the listing then I would make a separate listing for sweatshirts and hoodies together. If it is just one design and not a bunch of phrases available like a Most Likely to type set than I would include the sweatshirts and hoodies. I would put links to the the other listing in the description. I hope this helps!

Shawna glad you are talking about this - this past week I got a bunch of special requests - to either do a design on front and back of hoodie - or change something around for mother's day. I was so confused how to send them a personalized listing that wasn't up in my store for everyone. Then another time I wanted to put it up in my store - but when I created the listing at the price we agreed upon - it took off another 15% because I was running a sale. Thankfully I had incredibly easy going patient customers. But this is a long way of asking - how do you send them the custom listing? Or do you just post it in your store? What if it has their name or something on it? Sorry for being so long winded.
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Great questions! I avoid custom listings! I like to get the sale through the original listing or through a new listing that anyone can enjoy (not a custom name type situation). This is because I want the quality scores of these listings to get that love and momentum! I either make the new listing if it is something like "mimi." Or I tell them to purchase form the original listing and leave me a note at check out so that I know it's them and I will be sure to adjust the design. Hope this helps!

I love this video!! Quick question, do you send out a follow-up messages to your customers - I'm finding it very time consuming. I send out an initial thank you and sometimes I will message customers their tracking # - even though Etsy already does this, but I'm wondering if you do this or how much 'time' a day do you spend sending out messages and follow-up messages to your customers? Do you ask for reviews and do you message them after their order has arrived?? I'm sure I don't have even have a 1/4 the volume you sale daily and I'm finding it takes quite a bit of time, I'm just wondering how to do it all the correct way so I thought asking you -the best teacher- I might find an answer, lol! Thanks Shawna, you're the best!!
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hi there ms.chickaletta!!! Great question! I should do a video on this! I do send a follow up message. But I have it saved in my snippets so it is super fast. I DO NOT send the tracking info but let them know that "we will let you know when it ship." Etsy sends that out so I don't actually send another message for that. Takes me maybe 15 minutes a day to do this. I used to send another message after items got marked delivered and I did ask them to leave a review if they were happy or to reach out to me in the messages if anything was unexpected and that I would be happy to take care of any concerns. Don't ask for a 5 star review... that is a no no. I don't do this anymore but I thought it was really helpful in building up those reviews. I would sit down and do that once a week. Hope this helps!

@@shawnalynn2083 You are so awesome, thank you for the reply. I was curious if you messaged them he tracking info, I did this for over a year, but Etsy does it too so I think it's redundant and now that I'm making more sales it just became too time consuming. Hi Shawna, do you offer the 35$ Free Shipping Guarantee in your shop? I do and I'm struggling with that. When I offer a 15% discount on my items, then once people order 2 things (above 35$) and get free shipping I make hardly any profits, considering 6.5% Etsy fees as well, and the 10$ shipping I have to pay. And if I price my items even higher I end up way more expensive than the others. Considering I'm a new shop trying to grow this is tough! What do you suggest?

100% run Esty Ads. Start at $1/day and work your way up higher as profits increase. We have a rule that our Marketing budget cannot exceed 25% of profits. But you need to Market your store. Imagine if Nike never advertised. There are naysayers about Etsy Ads, but I am convinced that those people do not know Business 101. Run Ads ONLY on listings that are proven to sell. Anything else and your ROAS (Return On Ad Spend) will likely be too low and frustrate you. Etsy gives you stats on Ads. Every week go in and pull out any items below 3.0 ROAS. You likely are not making money on those. Run Ads on any item where the ROAS is higher than 3.0. Someone once said that running Etsy Ads on listings that are proven to sell is like throwing gasoline on fire! 100% truth. Good luck!
