I'm from Ukraine, I'm 54, and I have been living in Ireland from October 2022. I started to study English in 1979, in primary school, in Soviet Union. I knew nothing in English after finished school. Then, in my life, I started learning English several times (5-7) with the same results. Only when I came to Ireland it has moved from the dead point. Thanks a lot for your and your colleagues for the good learning materials!!!!

For the first time I could understand 100% a video in english. I was thinking to myself: how is this possible? I think the reason was the speed of your speech. You don't speak very fast and your speech is clear. I think that's why I understood everything.

I am learning in fact because I am studying everyday more and more practicing everyday a little, two or three times a day and from different countries and pronunciations and methodologies. Your English accent is perfect and my preference.. Thank for your class. I will study it as much as possible.

One of the best videos about language learning that I've watched here on KZbin. It was really helpful, because most of people who are obsessed about learning a language just want someone to tell them that they will get it easily, without much effort. The type of people who seek for this kind of information are mostly lazy ones. And it's hard to find guys like you around here, because people don't want to hear the truth. There is no way to learn something without practice, effort and investing time. And the most important: YOU MUST ENJOY WHAT YOU ARE DOING! (Sorry for my bad English).

This video is really what I needed. As someone living in a french speaking country and having issues with stuttering, I understand that the most important to be fluent is to practice a lot, like Gary Kasparov in chess. I'm determined to do so, every single day whatever it takes. Thank you

Hi Christian! I couldn't resist watching this video as I had a feeling you'd be taking fluency in another direction. As a fellow English teaching colleague, I find your approach so refreshing. Even here on KZbin, I emphasize fostering community, helping people feel relaxed and open to improving, and try to avoid false promises. In the end, I believe anyone can become fluent if you're willing to put in the work and take action - that's how I became fluent in Spanish even after years of "knowing" what I needed to do. I also find the emphasis on "fluency secrets" quite frustrating - all of my discussions of fluency center around identifying your needs and goals. While I don't think selling courses is a bad thing - all education receives funding from somewhere - they are not THE answer, they are simply ONE answer. Thank you for being a voice of reason and wisdom for your community and setting high standards for our teaching community as well.
@Canguroenglish7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! Thanks so much for your comment, it really means a lot to me. I'm only interested in the truth, and because I personally have nothing to sell it frees me to be able to speak my mind. However, I agree 100% that selling courses is not necessarily a bad thing, and the real enemy is false promises! Let's work together to call them out when we see them! Thanks so much for your support!

I love the theory of the ‘affective filter’ when learning a second language. When I went to school, I couldn’t stand learning French and had no passion with the language but when I was introduced to Korean, I found my passion. Language is a passion and an art. I enjoy learning the constructs of Korean grammar but I love enjoy communicating with my Korean friends but focus less on grammar. I’m a firm believer in interaction to develop confidence in language production and comprehensible input to aid language acquisition. Thanks Christian for the great video.

I should have learned english at school about 40 years ago. I wished I have had these kind of videos in this times. To speak the truth, I learned nothing at school, but on a four month trip through south east Asia. My girlfriend and I would have died without english, so we started to use it in a natuaral way, not thinking about grammar and mistakes. In principle, I thought that I had nothing to do with learning languages and have devoted myself more to technology and natural sciences. Now, 40 years later, and with the help of great KZbin channels like this one here, I came back to language learning. I started learning italian with the natuaral approach (metodo naturale) and it's just fun and 10 times faster than the old method of separated grammar and vocabulary learning and works even for old geezers like me 😅. Hi Mr. Christian, I used to hate and dislike lenguages because I used to think that it was a waste of my time or i didn't work for me, my native lenguage is Spanish, to be honest, I didn't consider myself as good as another one does in any activity, but someone similar to you told that life itself has different ways to reach all what you want, and well I tried again, i couldn't give up, I felt that I would be good leaning English, See if I can see language in another point of view and here I am 2 years later, telling you my little history in another lenguaje, I really feel happy to understand you, I always make mistake when i'm trying to communicate with people, I'm not perfect, , but the important thing in my opinion is, Never give up, learn as much as you can, Don't try to being better than someone else, the only one that you need to be better is than you. I am a self taught person of Japanese and I have never talked to a native Japanese even reaching an intermediate level. At that time, I have okay listening, reading comprehension and writing, but have no experience in speaking. When I first talked to a Japanese lady after landing Japan, I was quite stuttered but still manage to say what I want to say. This feel like magic to me. As I already have a solid foundation, so as I speak a little more, I was able to realise that the mistakes that I have make and I constantly think of how can it be improved. 6 months later, the total time that I converse with Japanese does not exceed an hour. But I have improved a lot and most of the Japanese consider me as fluent. To verify, I have taken the EJU and my grade in Japanese is enough for me to study in a Japanese university. Although I always immerse myself in Japanese a hour a day. So my point is that it is possible that one don't speak a lot but get fluent in a language.

It’s his accent he’s British. The brits drop the r sound at the end of words if there isn’t a vowel. Sister becomes sistah. Grammar becomes grammah. You tell with practice and context.

Yes, you need to learn about your grandma to become fluent in English. No one is able to become fluent in English without studying the life of their grandmas. 😅

Absolutely agree with Christian. Motivation is a golden key. Just want to add one more an important aspect. It's a music. When a language sounds like a music that you like you will enjoy the process of learning.

Hi Chris I discover your videos. Thank you so much. I have been learning English for twenty two months and little by little I improve my English. I'm working five times per week I'm not afraid by my mistakes and learning enjoys to me or me... I'm organizing my trip to the UK one month in September. I'll be alone it's a good context to learn a lot . Have a good evening.
