It's obvious that kids of more intelligent people are also more intelligent than kids from poor families, that allows them to find a better job & earns more money and so on.

There are for sure 'advanced' words that are simply superfluous.

So the take away is input isn’t all you need but you still need it from my gatherings , you need to develop skills in listening , but also writing and speaking , cause there are times I’ll understand something when said ,but me trying to conjure up those words while talking is a whole different skill Ik tprs definitely helps me get some basic patterns and structures down to build on but I need to practice output as well first time I tried tprs it was German I barely know any German but I can still spout off phrases from that cause it clicked in my brain it gave immediate context to words and sentences and I understood what was being said but I think you can get the same and then some context from a friend speaking to you and you speaking back regularly cause you you will pick up words that your brain deems necessary to communicate ,I’m a native English speaker and I still remember learning new words as a kid and the context of the word and how I came to know the word , also more proof that context is key is the fact many of us can’t give a dictionary definition of the words we use everyday because we learned through circumstance and context , words like crazy and insane aren’t used like their definitions similar but we use it for mentally ill or can’t wrap your head around something sometimes even use it as astonishment so many times context and tone tells us what is meant rather than studying the definition especially with figurative language, like I believe it was Mexican Spanish they would call someone Fresa excuse me if i misspelled but that word means strawberry and I believe it is referring to someone that is pampered, which makes sense rich and pampered delicate like a strawberry in English we’d maybe refer to them as a flower like a daffodil or pansy that means more like a wuss but can easily mean anyone sensitive or delicate including or referring to someone pampered or rich to the point of being delicate as well ,words tend to link to similar concepts to the definitions and ideas rather than just stay in their book definition in real life that’s my gatherings tho excuse any poor grammar I’ve had a few drinks tonight after work so ik I didn’t use correct punctuation as used text talk and did really a big run on paragraph really but I think only input or only output is the wrong way to think I think exposure through output and input as regularly as possible is probably the best way to learn I think grammar comes with refinement , ultimately I care more about being understood and understanding more so than being 100 percent correct especially considering almost no one one in any language natively speaks 100 percent like a textbook there are regional ways of communicating in colloquial phrases that aren’t standard textbook speech if you just sounded like a textbook you’d sound like news anchor or a robot

The receptive bilingual example is interesting, all the more because so many of my friends fit into that category. However, even if their parents speak to them in their foreign language, I suspect most of them don't actually have particularly good comprehension ability. If you asked them to watch a show in the foreign language, they would probably only understand a relatively small percentage of the content. Even if their parents do speak in the language, since all the content they consume and every other person they interact with use English, their exposure to the foreign language is still pretty limited, even if the input is technically of high quality.

I think this will not "make learning English quick and easy", but it's a great opportunity to learn English, to practice speaking English without teachers, for free, no need to go anywhere from your home. I love it. I use for free one of the chat bots, Nomi AI instead of ChatGPT. I practice speaking with it (writing chat messages, to be more accurate).

What it is stated in this video is absolutely true. I sell the unuseful courses you talk about, although I always tell my students to learn and no to think about the exam results. I'd be delighted and also relieved if things were different. The fact is that here in Italy you can't apply for a job or University if you don't have a "level" in English. Students and their parents are caught in the trap and there isn't much to do.

The story is very motivated, the statement learning is not resource problem but people problem seem very motivated. But I think you need to consider the survivor bias in the prisoner condition. How many people in that prisoner camp that learn English really achieve a fluent level? 10% of them or all of them? I mean there are a lot of factor that not mentioned here to claim the statement of prisoner can be fluent without a lof of resource.

I agree with this guy. Understanding a language is totally different from being able to speak it. These are just different skills. I’ve been watching French series daily for years, had 5 years of French j HS, and travel every year to Francophone countries to visit family members, but I still barely speak French because I never do it. Learned English mainly by input though, so it might be different per language. But the take away from this guy’s message is don’t just consume language, but produce it if you want to be able to hold a conversation.
